I can name 2 fuya.

Gandolfinis last movie, "The Drop", far better than just a retread of the NY wiseguy flick, the guy that plays the bartender steals it, but in a very understated performance.

Also, "American Splendor" with Paul Giamatti.

I know no one is going to bother to catch it, but you should try it, its on cinemax right now.

If you like it you might want to find the doc "Crumb", just take your anti depressant first.

PS splendor is a true story and Harvey pekar, the main character was a vintage vinyl fiend.

Scottyboy, I have seen both. Even read part of AS when it was in the comics. Great movie but definitely not for everyone.

As far as two movies go, how about a couple oldies but goodies. The Great Escape and Marathon Man are both available on Netflix right now. I have probably watched each of them 5 - 10 times in the past.

If you want two lesser know, more recent movies, also on Netflix, try Defiance and Enemy at the Gates.

Marathon man and enemy at the gates are great movies, truly great.

The other day I saw a 70s version of the Sherlock holmes story, The Seven Percent Solution"

Not a great movie, in fact downright unintentionally funny at times.

But seeing a young Robert Duvall as Dr. Watson with an on/off English accent and alan arkin as Sigmund freud, well I could not turn the channel.

I don't think it was cheaply made and the cinematography was at times beautiful.

Another old goodie, "Slap Shot", a film I knew about for decades but watched the first time about a week ago.

Paul Newman and Strother Martin in a sports comedy guy flick, and throw in the Hanson Triplets and I have another movie I will have to watch chunks of time and again.

Not talkin about slap shot 2, I repeat not slap shot 2.

Oh lord, Strangelove Makes me wish I had a better vocabulary, sellers is awesome as always, Sterling Hayden, one of the great actors few people know about and George C. Scott.

You could peel the names off forever, but the scene where Scott accidentally fell, rolled over, jumped back up and ad libbed a line that none other than the great Kubrick kept in makes it worth a watch.

And it gave us the line"You cant fight in here its the war room"

John Wick. A great action movie with great charachter development (a rarity in action movies), outstanding action sequences, and sharp dialogue. Best action movie I've seen since the 3rd Bourne film.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Excellent dark comedy with great performances by both Val Kilmer and Downey Jr. Highly recommended.

I enthusiastically echo the KKBB recommendation. Not well known. Another movie that didn't get a lot of attention was The Long Kiss Goodnight, with Geena Davis and Samuel L. Jackson. Fun movie.

Val Kilmer is very ill, pics lately show him painfully thin and always wearing a scarf.

There are reports of throat cancer but he says its jt was just a temporary condition.

As a Christian scientist he believes the body heals itself and does not take meds.

Even in the hospital he said everyone was very understanding and respectful of his beliefs and he feels he is going to be fine.

Anymore I cant say I blame someone for a belief system like that with all we are learning about big pharma.

My favorite kilmer movie is probably "The Salton Sea" the history of which BTW is a very interesting and sad place if you look it up,

That role was one of the scariest I have seen recently. He appeared to be quiet and a bit dimwitted, but...

The actor was also Bane in the Batman movie and Captain Picard's clone in Star Trek Nemesis, as well as one of the moonshine running brothers in Lawless. And, he is English, not American. I didn't identify him as being the actor in all those roles.

For a couple of movies that are not action oriented from recent years, try The Descendants and The Way. Both focus on character, commitment, friendship and life.

The actor is Tom Hardy. If you want to see his craziest role, check out Bronson. I think I watched it on Netflix (but possibly it was Amazon Prime). Amazing performance of an amazingly intense, crazy person.

Also the disalowed 3rd, 'Her' was fun to watch and at least on my screen the cinematography was awesome. A real 'hey look how good my projector is' kinda movie, subdued, somewhat unsaturated colors, but damn did everything look perfect.

If you like Gran Torino, Make sure you see American History X. Very similar story, but MUCH more gritty. Fair warning for extreamly explicit content, but a tru must see.

Also, if you like Goodfellas, check out Casino. Another true story about the rise (and fall) of the mob in Vegas. IMHO, this is the only film I have ever seen Sharon Stone in, where she actually ACTS - And she is OUTSTANDING, as is the entire cast.
