For me, Ex Machina was a snoozer. Lawless was decent enough.

    Gran Torino
    The Help
    American Hustle
    The Fighter
    Shindlers list
    Forest Gump
    American Beauty
    UP
    Goodfellas
    God father 1 and 2...not 3
    Life is beautiful

ok, that's more than 2.....we Italians don't count very well. :) Lots more too.

If you like Gran Torino, Make sure you see American History X. Very similar story, but MUCH more gritty. Fair warning for extreamly explicit content, but a tru must see.

Also, if you like Goodfellas, check out Casino. Another true story about the rise (and fall) of the mob in Vegas. IMHO, this is the only film I have ever seen Sharon Stone in, where she actually ACTS - And she is OUTSTANDING, as is the entire cast.

Seen them both, excellent movies too. 300 was good, if you like period pieces as well as Gladiator. Russell Crow excels in period movies. Also liked Daniel Day Lewis as Lincoln.

  • Great Tom Hardy movie...Lawless
I really like a lot of the stuff from Tom Hardy...Picked up Child 44 this evening from the Redbox. The reviews have been terrible, but I usually do not agree with the critics anyways...so I am looking forward to it.

Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. Yep, Roddy Piper. Low budget for sure, but how accurate is it? If you take the ones "living" as people, instead of how they are portrayed in the movie, it's pretty damed accurate. Take it in a literal sense rather than making it into a "science fiction" movie. I know "They Live" is considered one of the worst movies of all time by some; particualrly those that are "living".

I consider it one of the best movies of all time, and similar to Brazil in many ways (Brazil was also hated by many for the same reason(s)).

Big fan of old westerns too. John Wayne fanboy.

Sometimes I like big epic movies, something with a story and good acting. Other times I just want to be entertained and not put to sleep.

LOVE Midnight Run - The chemistry between DeNiro and Grodin is magic, and Pantoliano and Fahrina are the icing on the cake.

A few of my favorite "in-law" movies (Movies you can watch with anyone - including your in-laws - without fear of anyone being offended).

    Second Hand Lions
    Miracle
    Big Trouble
    Draft Day

Didn't care for Draft Day, the others are good though. Loved Second hand Lions.

There's another, don't remember the name, had Billy Crystal and Bette Midler as Grandparents watching the grand kids. Entertaining for the most part and in-law approved.

    Steel Magnolias

  • There are so many that I like, but two movies that come to mind are these:

The Day the Earth Stood Still. I'm talking about the original one which came out in 1951 and starred Michael Rennie and Patricia Neal. The movie causes the viewer to wonder how we would react if indeed we were to encounter a traveler from outer space. I also liked the theremin music that was common during that era.

The Lord of the Rings: The Battle of the Five Armies. It is a treat to watch in 5.1, and it shows how dangerous it is to become obsessed with power and/or riches. (Actually, all of the Lord of the Rings movies teach that lesson.)

  • Also thought of:

Theremin-an electronic odyssey (about the first electronic instrument)
The Lives of Others (East German Stasi before the wall came down)
    Expelled-No Intelligence Allowed (Ben Stein)
New York Doll (about Arthur "Killer" Kane, bassist for the New York Dolls)

Agree! remember the star trek episode when they 1st encountered the Romulans? ( Balance of Terror) They made that episode just like "The Enemy Below" putting two ship Captains up against each other, a lot the the ST episode is just like the movie!

Nolte should have gotten the Oscar for his performance in Warrior... He was incredible. Frank Grillo was outstanding too...
