Polk Audio LSi M 707

hi everyone, what do you all feel about the lsim 707 is it worth 4k a pair? I own the rti 150 and sda srs 3.1tl loudspeakers. do you feel if I buy the 707, the yamaha a-s 801 and audio quest rocket 33 would run the 707's very well? a sales guy at polk audio said he would put up 707's against any speaker costing up to 20k, do you think it is true, or a sales pitch? thank you, dana

The 707 is a good speaker, but I like the 705 better. I don't know anything about your Yamaha, so can't comment.

He means he has no personal experience with the integrated you are talking about, not that he doesn't know what it is.

Have you upgraded your 3.1TL's? That's the route I would take.

SL3000's or RDO-198's? What about your crossovers, original caps? Mass loaded midwoofer baskets? Blackhole 5? How about room treatments?

You could use an amplifier. Your integrated, though nice, doesn't have enough power to really get the most out of what you have.

I think the Polk rep is stretching a bit claiming they'll compete with speakers up to 20k. They are a nice sounding speaker, just depends on your preferences on whether they are worth the 4k to you.

Personally, if I had 4k to spend, I'd be looking at used or demo higher end speakers. New stuff loses it's value too quickly.

I would go with the 705's and a nicer amp and pre. My experience with the 705's and the Parasound P5/A21 merits consideration.

Bro....I beleive the consensus is that the 705's are a more balanced speaker and unless you have a really big room, the 705 would bring more value. Like F-1nit said, I have no experience with your yamaha.....however, I have (2) sets of LSIM 705 speakers and they are an easy load to drive, nicely efficient. Your speaker cables should be fine.

But since you keep inquiring about the 707's ....just wondering, did you already order a set?

  • no not yet mount vernon cherry they are waiting for some to come in polk says I get a 10% discount on the 707's instead of 4k they be $3600 good deal speakers and speaker cable covered but what do you think about pre amp or power amp to drive the 707's?

Most of the polk refurb's are basically new open box (barely a blemish if at all)

100 wpc is not going to give you the headroom to maximize the 707s potential. You might as well get 703s and a good sub. Use 12 ga wire to jump the terminals in either case.

...well I have a pair of 707's in a big room [25x25x12] and think you would be happy with them...and unless you are in a hurry to just get them, as was mentioned above, the Polk factory store on eBay is worth watching... stuff goes on sale there at random times and you can save more than the 10% you are hoping for...

what is the best integrated amp under $1500
Matter of opinion, but I'll throw out the best I've heard...Dayens Menuetto. AND, it mates very, very well with the LSiM series. http://forum.polkaudio.com/discussion/168143/results-integrated-shootout-with-lsim703#latest This would be a tough unit to beat for the price, period.

Also a matter of opinion, but I (and others here) use Douglas Connection. douglasconnection.com
Tons of choices in that price range, especially if you go used.

I've heard all 3 models with various gear in various rooms, the 705 is the best sounding regardless of room size and is easier to drive. I'll take a guess that all you're looking at is the bass spec because really that's the only difference. That would be a mistake. It takes power to get good bass and your Yamaha isn't up for driving the 707. However, it will do a decent job with the 705.

So, $1500.00 isn't going to get you an integrated with much, if any more power than you have already. Take that along with the $600.00 cable money and put it towards some really good cables.

What is your source or sources?

With all due respect PSOVLSK, the suggestion of the 60 wpc Dayens, while seemly ok for the 703 is not the best one for either the 705 or 707.

I have another question for you, dlb68@live.com. Since you already have 3.1TL's, why are you looking to buy other speakers? Why not upgrade the crossovers and all the other SDA tweaks? You'd be amazed at the improvement.

From what I've read so far in this thread I gather that he's looking for confirmation bias on the 707's.

...guess I would agree with the "more power for the 707's" argument and am not familiar with Yamaha, but it's likely they have a power amp that would sync up with the integrated he has and bi-amp the 707's...that would probably yield something more substantive than bi-wire on the integrated alone...
