Umm.. it looks pretty bad outside. Just got out of work a couple hours ago... it's like Chicago outside. Not sure if we can make this session happen if it's like this tomorrow morning.

had a great time todd, those are some big honking speakers. the sound was very detailed with a layered midrange. the bass was full. i have to bring some cd's with bass i am familiar with to see how well it drives. female and male vocals were quite natural. they had good imaging. maybe need to be farther apart. can't wait until the second round being neighbors (6 mi. apart) :D

Speaking of, I need to get back out towards Ft Worth, and do some BBQ with Marvin. Weather has not been very forgiving to the Dallas Area. I can't remember the last time we had this much winter in a week.

Tratliff, would also like to experience your Legacy, one day soon.

Nice at least marvin made it out... stupid snow. Difficult to drive from Lantana. Not so much afraid of my own driving since I'm from Chicago, but more afraid of everyone else around here.

lol....So the snow gods sent Todd some weather to keep the riff-raff at bay. I think you lucked out on this one Todd.

Kidding of course....maybe once Joey gets his concealed carry permit he won't be afraid to venture out into the wilds of Texas.....alone....in the dark....in the snow. :)

Thanks Marvin. I had a great time. Trying the interconnects was very cool. I can see how my next move will be some type of interconnect. The MG audio interconnects was really nice and seemed to open the image, provide additional depth and tighten up the bass.

I was surprise at the difference between the XLRs and RCA's. The additional volume control with the RCA's was significant. I have always thought that XLR's would be the best route. Now I am reconsidering.

Joey - I'm not going to be able to do anything today.

We can all plan something soon.

That would be great. I am highly considering dougs Alpha interconnects, haven't really looked at the Furez much. My thought is that it would be nice to match the SC's I have. In fact I am on his site and MG Audios right now.

No prob Todd, just let me know when. I have the next 4 days off and then I work 3 then off 3. Basically if we are to do something, it should be soon as my schedule gets busier towards the middle and end of march.

Even though mine are the original and not the updated versions, and my room is way too small for them, you can see why I had a hard time letting go of them!

I had Marvin and Skip over last night.

Marvin brought his Silk integrated and Skip brought his mono blocks. I got to try both of them out with the Legacy.

Marvins Silk integrated sounded very nice. It seemed to me that it controlled the mids/highs better than the A21. Appeared to remove some of the shrill that is sometimes heard when volume is relatively high on the A21. Although the bass was controlled the A21 does provide more slam. Imaging and detail really shined.

Skips mono blocks are very nice but don't really drive a 4 ohm speaker all that well. At lower volumes they sounded good but would run out of juice pretty quickly and just could not provide the bass control that either the Silk or A21 can.

We had a really good time and listened to music from every end of the spectrum. It provided me a good introduction into tubes.

So whats your thoughts on that tube sound ? Like...not like....so-so ? Betcha you'd like a combined product that has the slam of SS with those lush mids of the tubes.

Still think that can be achieved with a tubed pre and SS amp.

I do have the A21. Been using it for about 2 years.

I like the tube sound. The mids and highs were jus what I am looking for but also need that slam.

Really glad I could try them out. I'm working on a deal for some tube amps that are a push-pull design with much more power. From what I have read I think they will be able to provide both the mid and highs I desire and also the bass control.

Only problem is if I get the tube amps my P5 will need to be retired and a new pre will need to take its place. I could always sell the P5 and go direct from the Oppo. Not my choice of configuration but it could tie me over until I figure out what I want and located it. That Cary that Joey has appears to be an awesome unit but I think it would be out of my price range.

It's tough to get SETs above 50w... you'll be shelling out a lot of cash. PP may not have the complete magic of a SET but if it's a good design, you'll get 95% of the way there. My 211 FE is a PP design, but goes up to 150w. 70w is pure class A and it's got 4ohm taps too.

You want to try out my Cary 05 pre? The 211FE are tough to lug around, it's 150 lb each crated. xnpeop0x45k8.jpg

That's just the amps.... my wife's car barely fit it.
