I will. I agree with with real estate market. My inlaws purchased a new home there in 2005 and since they said its lost nearly 200k in value, but it's coming back up now apparently.

Good thing to hear. I took a road trip there several years ago. It felt like a ghost town after another. Dallas to the keys( gulf side) and up ( Atlantic ) side.

I really thought about moving there but the industry that my wife and I were in did not really exist there.

I still love that state. Congrats.

I lived in Clearwater FL for a year and really enjoyed it. I'm a midwest boy at heart, but down the road wouldn't mind migrating back down there.

Congrats! Winter? Yeah, I hate that too! Over two decades under Canada does NOT help! How about a review after you're settled in for a few months.

We're also considering buying some secondary property down in that area for the retirement years. Now is a good time to buy; soon things will shoot back up again in price and WE DON'T want that!

You can have winter! You get to a point where your body just gets TIRED of having to ADJUST to seasons. I was in the gym today and ALL the joints were speaking to me as I was pushing and pulling! Changes in temps, pressure, humidity mean changes in the "body". If you're 20 or 30 something, no problem. But if you've USED your body at all, it's NOT PRETTY! Sitting here with water, a 32g protein bar and an ice pack on my shoulder which will be moved to my elbow in 20 minutes or so?

Ha I'm only 33 and my wife and I have been talking about moving to Cape Coral, Ft. Myers area for a while. Winter is a ****. Maybe in about 18 months after I earn my degree. My wife's sister moved there about 10 years ago and we have been strongly considering it since. If it wasn't for my wife being so successful in her career we would be down there already. It's a great place to live.

I figured out that what it costs me in taxes to live in NJ... I could live in FL.. I HATE cold weather and it never can be hot enough for me.... Cape Coral has the perfect climate for me as I like humidity and heat.... I just feel better.No state income tax, and my property taxes will be about $14K LESS than NJ. For what? NJ has State income tax, Hi property taxes and hi sales tax... Maybe if enough people leave NJ they'll come to their senses...NJ is one of those states that when you scream about taxes they whine about ..."well we'll have to cut police and fireman and services blah blah blah" Yet if you go into a state building you see nothing but extravagance at the taxpayers expense...they never save a dime on anything they buy...Sounds like I've had enough?

I spent a year living in N.J. Couldn't afford to buy any property in my area (central Jersey about 30 minutes from NYC with train service via PATH).

Tough sell. And as most of you know I'm about as far from a conservative as you can get. But I do believe this is one thing we can agree about: the cost of living in the nicer parts of N.J. is prohibitive unless you're pulling down a 1 percent salary!

I don't mind taxes per se but Real Estate in that part of Jersey is a JOKE! Talk about getting LESS for more. If I moved my present house to the place I left I'd be close to seven figures for a property that's worth less than 120K in Maine? Yeah this 114 year old house would be about a million there, and that's just shameless! [insert Market Fan Boy rhetoric, here!]

That's why so many Jersey boys "invaded" my place of origin; the Lehigh Valley, in the early 21st century!

You would mind taxes if you paid $18K/ year and then State income tax and then sales tax and every other fee they can jack from you.(+federal). I don't even have any kids in the school system, but I have to pay for it. I just don't understand why it costs 5 times more in taxes to live in NJ....or NY or CA or MA. People are leaving in droves to get away. What is going to happen when there aren't enough tax payers to pay? Billions ($5.5B in 2010 alone)of tax revenues are leaving NJ. Other states are experiencing similar exodus's.

That's certainly a lot, Mike.., But it's all relative to Gross Salary. When I was in your state I didn't even meet the modal salary for that area. Far from it. Average salaries were in the 250K and above zone. 18K at that rate isn't even 10%. And I certainly pay WAY more than 10% in taxes up here. We pay quite a bit in fact, especially when you consider that the average wage is so much less.

As long as I get to keep 65% or so. I'm OK with that. Of course, those taxes should be spent for the "public good"!

We do agree that "the rent is too damn high!". Remember that guy! lol

After all is said and done... the government gets more than 50%. Between Fed and State income taxes and sales tax and gasoline tax and all the other little hidden taxes on seemingly everything else you pay for (communications taxes) etc.

Would be tickled to pay 35%.

The reason why taxes keep going up is because you keep demanding they do. How so ? Because the whiny crybabies of the world want government to do everything for them. Government themselves are telling you they will do everything for you....if you only pay alittle bit more....then some more....and yet more again, and all your problems will magically disappear. If you believe in that concept, then stay put in Jersey and bend over while grabbing your butt cheeks. The union members keep crying for Cadillac benefits....who do you think is paying for that too. ?

My wife moved a bunch of people from a factory in NJ to Tennessee. Their jaws hit the ground when they found out what taxes were, and prices, on houses twice as big as theirs in Jersey. Here are some of the questions she was asked by transferee's.....

How can everything be so cheap ?
Is the water clean ?
Do they have fire and Police services ?
Are there any schools here ?
Whats the catch ?
Then why is it so expensive in Jersey ?
Mind you, all these people will be making the same salary they made in Jersey. Talk about tickled pink....they couldn't wait to make the jump.

They were double tickled when told when their kids maintain a certain GPA, public college is free...FREE !!

All done at a fraction of the cost in Jersey....while they make the same salary, and improve their lifestyle. Talk about a no brainer. Talk about why people, and business's are moving out of states like Jersey, Illinois, California. It's because the math doesn't add up, never did. They keep kicking the can down the road in those states until the time comes for government to bail them out or they have to shaft a lot of people on pensions.

First define what exactly it is you want government to do, then anything else they want to do you have to forcefully oppose.

Hi Polkies... I am here in Sunny Southwest Florida.... It hit 81 today. I closed on my little piece of paradise today and will be moving in tomorrow/friday/saturday/sunday. I hope to have all my toys (at least HT) setup by 1:00 on Sunday. I picked up my 706C and my 702F/X's from Fedex today as they were trying to deliver to the house that I didn't own yet, but no big deal. The 705's are being delivered on Friday via common carrier and they are here just waiting for me...

So just for S's & G's I unboxed the 706C. WOW this thing is:

1. Beautiful
2. Big
3. Heavy Beast
4. Built like a shick brithouse.
5. Going to sound much better than the LSiC from my old rig...

It is one of those things that is actually heavier than it looks....
