  • Enders - Congrats on the amp purchase. Glad to see things worked out with the other equipment sale and finding that beast!!!

BTW - I have both my Parasound amps and Velodyne SMS-1 all controlled by the SC07 12v trigger. No thumping. I know I'm comparing apples/oranges between our two systems, but just a reference point.....

Yup, sorry the Rotel didnt work out, but this was a cheaper option of similar spec so its all good.

Thanks for letting me know. I'm thinking the 12v trigger may solve things but not sure....

Is it Pre-amp on then Amp on and Amp off then Pre-amp off or totally the other way around?

  • I think it depends on the 12v trigger setup. On my system. I use a panamax 5300 and my avr powers on then trips the 12v which turns on my 2 tfm15's then turns on my crown xls and my minidsp. On power down my avr shuts down first then my Cown shuts off then after 10 seconds my Carvers shut down. I get no thumps or pops on power down or power up

Normally the preamp (or avr if thats what you use) sends the 12v signal

Hmmm..... Pre-amp on then Power Amp I can do..... Power Amp off then Pre-Amp dont think I can do that one via my Integra

    F'in good!

    Mo' betta at less volume.

Gets SUPER LOUD with no distortion, I'm enjoying it very much.

    Speakers seem clearer....

So are you using the 12v trigger to get around it? Or it just something you expect?

I could leave it on 24/7 but I've heard and noticed it runs a bit warmer than my Carver when its been on/used for a bit.

no... i haven't hooked up a trigger... I meant I have no trigger hooked up.
It is not very loud with mine, and does not seem to be anything destructive.... it is a small pop, usually followed by a quiet gurgle sound. I assume it is the lack of protective circuitry, and has something to do with caps discharging.
But, if the trigger stops it, I may look into that.

Yeah, I read somewhere that it would fix it because it keeps the caps charged enough to not pop when it goes off?

Not sure how true that is as I didnt see it mentioned in more than this one place.

Its not TOOO huge an issue, and I know it wont screw up the speakers, and its not super loud, just something I dont get with my Carver.

If it just is what it is thats fine, just looking for ways around it if possible...

I think I remember getting a thump with my B&K when I power off manually, but I just leave it on all the time.

I may do that in the end, but I liked the fact it had a 12v trigger so I wasn't using power when I'm not around.

  • Tried to post this in a new thread, but it got flagged as spam.....

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
So I think I'm in trouble here fella's.

Had the B&K connected to my APC unit playing Cloudy w a chance of meatballs. Nothing crazy volume wise, about my standard volume for TV which is 50 out of 75.

The APC unit tripped and went into overload.

I disconnected the amp and rebooted the APC.

    Everything good..

Plugged the amp directly into the wall.

I have a hum from my right channel only.

Doesnt matter which outlet I plug it into.

Tried a 3 prong to 2 prong adapter, still hum

I get the hum anytime the speaker wire is connected to the right channel even if the RCA's are not connected.

I checked the speaker level fuse and the it looks fine.

Am I screwed here and gonna have to have the amp looked at?

    Any ideas or suggestions recommended.

I've got it direct into the wall with just my front 3 right now and no problems at all.

Sorry about your hum, Dan. Hope you get it figured out.

About your turn-off thump, that's just what B&K's do. My ST-202+ thumps every time. I read that they all do that, and I don't worry about it at all.

  • stupid question but have you tried different speakers, to see if the problem follows that particular speaker or just the speaker output terminal

  • Yeah, I switched what speaker was connected to that channel as well as what pre-out connection.

No matter what I do that channel hums. Even with no RCA connected it hums.

You know I don't know why I come into these topic's when knowing it's going to make me want one again.
I so Miss B&K and looking at your amp kills me. Now I gotta start searching for a clean 200.7 and or a 200 mono, 200.2 so I can have then when needed.

Just to confirm do you get the hum when it is plugged back into the APC? For reference I use the 12v trigger and have always had my B&K connected to my PS Audio Quintet with no thump or hum. Welcome to the B&K club by the way.

The hum happens in one channel only, regardless of if a IC is connected, if its connected direct to the wall or the APC unit. The hum is not IN ADDITION to dialog/effects, its ALL there is.

IE right channel is JUST hum nothing else.

I believe the issue I had (which may not be relevant for you) is that my amp has the ability to ask for my wattage (1830 watts) from the wall than my APC unit can handle (1500) so I believe I messed something up.

Amp will be direct into wall after this with the possibility of using this device (which shouldnt current limit the amp)
