Victory at Sea Vol 1 - found it at a thrift, original RCA Living Stereo shaded dog pressing. HIGHLY recommended. MANLY stuff here.

Thanks again Senor Grande for turning us on to the good stuff. After this comes FZ's Apostrophe.

Yuppers... Dad had this release in his collection... not sure if Mom still has it. The MFSL release is also prized.

Still remember watching this series with Dad on TV back in the 60's (?) in glorious Black & White.... Mostly remember "big boats" ala the Bizmark, the HMS Hood, etc. churning through heavy seas.

Coincidentally from the WWII era, I've been spinning old Sinatra lately. Including this little jewel:

    449292.jpg

Mix of studio and live radio broadcasts, many sound fresh due to a nice remastering job There are a few repeats, which are not a plus, and FS does not make a good Porgy, but this is Frank approaching his prime.

    Worthwhile buy for FS buffs...
    More later,

Put this in last night...It's been about a year since I listened to it. I remeber when it first came out I thought it was a cut above all the other "teen" artists of the time (2001). I still do. Good music and the kid has some talent. Her next release (Hotel Paper - 2003) was fair but not as good and there has been nothing since. That's too bad. Maybe she has been spending too much time being "hot"... ;)

Actually, she had a baby as I recall. Funny how stuff like that can change priorities.

Not as hot as above...but tonight's lineup is (so far):

Bonnie Raitt - Nick of Time. GREAT LP. One of my current faves and took me damn forever to find.

Jennifer Warnes - The Hunter. This chick is decidedly not hot, however, she can sing to me anytime.

    The Libertines -- The Libertines

If you can look past all the tabloid antics of co-founder Pete Doherty, you'll find that him and Carl Barat have released two of the most startling and creative rock albums in decades. And forget what MTV, Spin, and Rolling Stone have tried to pass off as "punk" in recent memory, as this is probably the only truly punk offering to crack the mainstream in over a decade.

Though most critics are in unision when praising their first album Up the Bracket, I find this sophomore (and probably last) effort, to be their most fascinating, moving, involving, and energetic. Mick Jones from the Clash produced it and it seems his only purpose was to get the album recorded before Barat and Doherty imploded. And it shows... this album is absolutely RAW -- lyrically and musically. Extremely self-aware and brewing with immediacy. Very rarely do I find an album which absolutely exposes those who create it, but to hear Barat sing about what could have been, while Doherty harmonizes with apologies is powerful stuff.

This could have been one of the greatest rock bands of all time. But it seems they'll be resigned to footnote status.

Last night was Sinatra at the Sands w/Count Basie Orchestra

THIS is THE live album to own. Everyone raves about Belafonte at Carnegie and rightfully so but this album is as well done as that PLUS it's Frank. A must have. Any guy that refers to women as 'broads' in normal conversation is worth listening to. ;)

This morning we are rolling w/ Dusty in Memphis.

Various Hendrix live tracks. Man, I never get tired of hearing him and Mitch Mitchell. What a combo. Talk about a guy who packed a lot of experience (pardon the pun) into such a short life. Touches you to core of your soul!!

I've been a ...Heads fan since I first heard "Once in a Lifetime" on the car radio many moons ago. When I did I immediately drove to my favorite record store and bought Remain in Light. Not long after I bought their three earlier releases. I hung with them 'til the bitter end...

One of the truly original and outstanding groups of the late 70's/ early 80's.
