    Rare Earth - Get Ready (LP)

    Five white guys recording for the Motown Studio in Detroit. They were actually given their own label within Motown...Rare Earth.

    The gem of this LP is side 2...a 21:30 version of "Get Ready" which is the only track on the side. There is some controversy whether this is a studio recording with some canned audience noise added...or whether it is a live recording. For some reason there is no definitive answer...although I found this info:
    On July 4 at 1 a.m., Rare Earth began recording, and when they were through, they had stretched the song to twenty-one and a half minutes. It took up the entire second side of that first album, issued in the fall of 1969.

    which leads me to believe it is a studio recording...and listening seems to bear that out.

    Smoky Robinson wrote "Get Ready". On Side 1 the cover of "Tobacco Road" and cover of Dave Mason's "Feelin' Alright" shine.

    This is really good!

    I'm gonna have to confess that I've never owned my own copy of any of L.S.s discography - I know all the 'classics' from FM radio but just recently wanted my own to play.

    I picked this up after surfing around - glad I did - this has some good sonics for a 'best of' - really.

    Ya know - sometimes the soul just has to have some good ol' boy Southern Rock!! :smile:

    H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music.
