    Jackson Browne - Looking East

    Jackson_Browne_-_Looking_East.jpg

After listening to the new Browne album "Time the Conqueror" I decided to pull out another of his albums for the evening. It was one of the lesser viewed (from a critic standpoint) but one I enjoy very much. "Barricades of Heaven" is stellar. "I'm the Cat" and "Nino" are just fun tracks. Good Stuff.

Dr Hook- Sloppy seconds. A silly but fun album.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

What with the financial disastrophe, and the House turning thumbs down, I think I need a reassuring shot of the Chairman of the Board, Frank. And maybe some Scotch. :p
Both of which, I partake of maybe once every 4 or 5 years.

I didn't this album existed. I did see the video of "Super Boogie" on youtube.com.

I'm listening to this CD by The Dream Academy. Remember the single "Life in a Northern Town"? Co-produced by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd.

Elton John - Madman Across the Water -SACD

    61PQ894Y35L._SS500_.jpg

Every time I listen to a really well mastered SACD, it makes me wish there are even more out there. It is a simply stunning format. In talking to the Polk guys at PF, they say that Blu-Ray is all about the potential for the hi-rez audio...not the PQ. That's great, but I'm not going to replace all my SACDs, CDs and LPs with BR. I hope SACD will stay around as a niche format for a while. At least until I can get my SACD library built up some more.

Midnight Oil - Diesel and Dust

    9a9d9833e7a02699de1a3110.L.jpg

I can never listen to "Beds Are Burning" without the image of Peter Garrett dancing (and I use that term loosely) in the desert from the video of this song. He makes Tom Petty sound like an operatic virtuoso...but he makes it work. Definitely something different, even though "Beds Are Burning" got a lot of airplay on MTV back in the day. The band is solid and the recording is quite good.

Jimi Hendrix - The Jimi Hendrix Experience Box Set. Killer rarities and live stuff. Kind of for when you've played every album and live recording, including the dagger releases as well as stuff like Stages, etc...

    Jimi was God. Not Clapton.

ScompRacer (Rich) presented this to me as a present. It is a three record set on virgin vinyl, 45 rpm, limited edition and is probably the best sounding LPs I have to date.

    Thanks Richie.

Clarity is so good that you can hear him open his mouth millseconds before he sings. Polk speakers are the best IMO.

I noticed that. The new Classic Records LP releases of Led Zepplin is chock full of that kind of clarity.
