LOL... Here is an update. Pretty much done now except for the trim and flooring. Everything is looking fantastic. I do have a couple questions about the need for front height speakers given that I will be using the SDA's up front. If I use them, they would be punched all the way up to the top corners above the doors. I can still close up the holes. What do you guys think?

And of course, some obligatory pictures...4ixlx2o6cpur.jpg

I think the LA Brea Tar Pits formed in less time
I don't think there's a need for the heights but then again, I haven't heard them in conjunction with SDAs.

You already have the 1.2TLs, which are over 5' tall, and well above your seated listening position. I don't think those front height speakers will add anything to the 1.2s, in fact, if the timbre is off, they may be distracting. You could always set them up temporarily on a ladder or something, and see if the add anything to the mix.

John... You adding some led lighting to your cabinet? If not I would so you can show off your gear that's inside. Have a switch or a dimmer on it so you can turn off if you don't like...

Similar to Richs and Paul's gear rack lights....

Although IIRC your tube amps and pre will be in the top shelf out for everyone to admire...

No lights in the cabinet, but I do have enough electricity at the cabinet to think about it later. For now, I want nothing that will be a distraction from my tubes. :)

And yes, it has taken too long to get this done, but with working full time and the myriad of honey-do's that keep coming up(bull-dozing a back yard and re-landscaping, etc.) I am just happy it is almost over.q28ideulf88a.jpg

I already have another pair of those Tony, just not sure if I want to put them in. Cutting more holes if they won't matter or do very little is not something I want to do. I have a set of RM7500's and will just hang a couple of those for now to see what I think and go from there.

    @nooshinjohn, congrats man....

You will need to give us a nice massive before and after thread on your work on the house.... I know you've gutted the Kitchen and main floor and put in new cabinets/countertops and flooring.....

Hopefully when you get it re-appraised (so your homeowners insurance covers your improvements) the valuation shows the amount of blood, sweat, tears and love you've put into it..

I'm sure Nooshin is enjoying nesting and decorating it away (and making you a list as long as the day is for what you need to fix/paint/replace lol) ....

Also just thought of this John...... I know its a flat ceiling but a regular pitched roof over the garage....

I have a couple ideas to put in your head...

    1. Infinite baffle subs - keeps those big boxes from annoying Nooshin and can give you some REALLY good LFE for movies, and you can place them wherever you need within the structure and not mess with the feel of things....
    2. Storage - since you build a room within a room with the garage..... why not lay down subfloor on top of the ceiling framing so you can use the extra space for storage (like all those christmas lights/tree's I'm sure Nooshin has for you guys lol)....
    3. Projector with recessed drop-down screen - that room is perfect for that man.... either convert the existing ceiling fan into an outlet (and then daisy chain another junction box for that fan farther back in the room), or just run another set of wires for it now.... Use a regular LCD for your normal TV viewing, but for those special occasions, hit the button and drop down a screen that fills the space between both SDA's

"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion." :\
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

I will post some more pics tonight when I get home, but it is coming together more quickly now. I have all the in-walls installed now. I wish my wife would have allowed me to do it from the beginning, because cutting drywall after it is hung sucks. I have some repairs to make to the walls that I would not have to make, had I just done it in the first place.

I have completed the tile in the closet, and will be finishing the shelving tonight, and perhaps setting up a small workbench inside it as well.

Very good idea John. I put up some front height speakers in my 5.1 but didn't think it was much of a benefit, so I took them down.

Yep... that is real grass. It will be the only spot in the yard that is getting water, everywhere else, including the front yard will be green, but fake...
