Finally getting around to building the man-cave

Noosh:
Looks like your going to have access to the gear from a closet behind the equipment. If so, a big round of applause for making a great decision. If I ever get to build a man cave, that and 20amp wiring will be absolutes.
That feature was an absolute must. It will help with everything else, being able to change gear out and manage cables by being able to get behind things like that. The turntable, and the tube amps will be set on a granite shelf above everything else. The other gear will be behind glass doors below. The space between the three sections is 22 inches, so plenty of room to breathe and move things about inside. The Gear... Erbody needs a man cave. Good job

Drywall went up today!
a total of 38 sheets were needed to seal things up. Damn this is going to be sweet! I sent a few shots to Dan and hopefully he can post them for me. Thanks Dan... the mud and tape will be done in about two hours, then I will be doing a couple coats of primer before the color goes down. I am thinking about a BEHR color called Arrowhead Lake for the TV wall and the rest will be a color called Roman Plaster to match the rest of the house.
The floor will be tiled 42" in front of the French doors and down the side by the window and into the closet, with carpet covering the middle. On the TV wall, I will be using a slate tile that will go from the top of the cabinet to the ceiling, and install some led backlighting that will put off a warm amber glow when the TV is turned on, and a black granite countertop for the cabinet.
My fear is that the man cave might be a nicer place to be than the living room...The Gear... LOL... I'm a big fan of that series (obviously) as well as the first few Dune books. I am a big sci-fi nut. But Muad'Dib as a screenname just doent really fit me. More pics coming your ay Dan, and my thanks for all your help.
Guys, this room is going to be amazing. We live on a fairly busy street, so I opted for a room-inside a room type of build, and have a 12 inch thick insulation blanket in the attic and 6 inches in the walls. The room is almost dead silent even during high peak times, and also seems to stay cooler than the living room. This is SWEET!:biggrin:The Gear... This is looking great John! I love looking at these projects almost as much as I do working on them. I recently sold my last house and no longer have the man cave listed in my signature. The basement on our new house is finished and usable, just not done how I would have done it. This thread is making me want to tackle my new basement. Good luck and keep posting the pictures of the progress!

John, lets be honest here.... thats not why you did it. Thats your doomsday bunker isnt it buddy? Your just hiding where the generator, gas and food stores are going to be....
World all goes down, John's gonna be jamming to the Beatles on his TT with his tube amps glowing till the generator dies lol....
P.S. concrete is NOT considered insulation, and I know what you really have is 12" of concrete in the attic and 6" on the walls...."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." John, the only critique/question I have is are you planning on leaving that regular door to the house there, or are you going to replace it with a thicker exterior door, something that will seal more soundproof?
You did all this work to get it to be isolated, but w/ that standard door there, your likely going to be getting house noise. And its bad enough when you have to hear em IN the house ......

The area to the left and right of the audio rack allow the 1.2TL's to sit 6" from the back wall and the baffles are 6" in front of the front edge. Besides that, with the recent upgrades to the speakers, they are going NOWHERE!The Gear... Im guessing that spacing between the rack and the doors is where the SDA's are going correct?
Cause I could see Nooshin making you put them behind those doors to keep them ugly monsters hidden from HER second family room"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted."
