Will be out on Blu Ray this Tuesday... Can't wait... It's been a long dry summer for movies, and since I didn't get to see this in the theater, this seems to be a good one from what I heard..

Of the 4 summer movies I saw this summer, Iron Man 3, Man of Steel, Wolverine and Star Trek...Star Trek was my favorite. I loved it and thought it was very well done.

I have this on Amazon pre-order.
    No excuses!

Can't wait also. We are going through all the ST movies as a family. Wrath of Khan is everyone's favorite. I found ST-11 to be good but not great. I sometimes wonder if it should have been called, "Star Trek - lens flare". Although this was annoying it was the abuse (or deviation) of characters that really got to me. For example, the "Kobayashi Maru" scene seemed forced in ST11 and didn't carry the weight that it did as in ST-2. There were other scenes that also didn't make that much sense and likewise seemed like the producers simply wanted to throw old story bits into a primarily an action movie.

But, as an action movie it was good and could still be enjoyed.

Count me in the 'missed it in theaters' group. I missed it when it was playing on all the biggest/best screens which are really the only ones worth venturing out of the basement for. While I wanted to see it badly I refused to pay to see/hear it in lesser quality than I get at home.

Just got it through Netflix and will watch soon. I just watched ST 1-6 movies. I have heard that if you are and "old trekkie" then you may not like this. I did enjoy ST-11, but I didn't think it was a good ST movie. From redlettermedia's Youtube review of St-12, it sounds like it's going to be quite disappointing. RLM also reviewed ST-11 and said that it was a good movie overall to enjoy as an action movie, but has many inconsistencies in the ST world to be a good Trek movie. Again, they overall liked it though. ST-12 on the other hand had a much worse review from them.

Oh well. I'll watch it with an open mind. If anyone is interested in the review I mention above then below is a link. I won't embed the video since it has LOTS of spoilers. It is also rather long, and a bit boring compared to his other reviews. At least this review isn't "creepy".

Amazon says my copy will be delivered tomorrow. Didn't go and see it in the theater since the reviews I read, said the sound was way too loud. Am looking forward to watching it in my theater.

Guess I am geeky enough to have bought the edition with the phaser.. at least it will make a nice decoration in the theater.

Same here, I watched the original series when they first aired. I think the reboot is great, and both movies were excellent. Into Darkness is, no pun intended, very dark, and quite a twist on the ST II Wrath of Khan.

I think they did a great job of casting young Capt Kirk...
I grew up watching ST religiously and feel that of all the late day spin-offs and remakes, these 2 films have been the best reboot of the series.

This was a blind buy as I didn't have time to see in theaters. Into Darkness is probably my favorite Star Trek film yet. I enjoyed the 2009 reboot/prequel but I don't think they really knocked it out of the park with that one. This one on the other hand, was an absolute blast. I too am more of an old school Trekkie and feel that this one in particular did a great job of putting a new spin on a classic Star Trek tale. It's rare that I want to watch a film again right after I finished it but this one was the exception. Seen it twice now and I want to watch it again. A+.

Argh. I posted my thoughts on this yesterday, but they were lost due to the hacking. Oh well, I'll give a shorter version now.

Bottom line> I was let down by this movie. I had high expectations going in. Heard many say it was better than the 2009 movie (which I enjoyed, at least the 1st time I watched it). I thought Into Darkness had too much emphasis on action, to many plot points were brushed over without enough development, and it became very predictable in the 2nd half of the movie. Bottom line, I am worried about what J.J. Abrams is going to do with the Star Wars franchise.

Don't get me wrong, the movie is not bad, but I had hoped for more thought provoking sci-fi plot lines, better dialog, etc. It is visually outstanding, but not something I will watch over and over.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...
