Hello all! I just wanted to finally contribute to this forum, if only for an introduction. I've been lurking here for some time now, reading all the useful information in this great community! I have not posted due to using the search function and finding every bit of info I need, and then some! My an aspiring audio nut, my gear stash looks like; Emotiva XPA-1 (x2), Emotiva, USP-1, Emotiva XDA-1, Emotiva ERC-2..all connected to a pair of Teledyne (Acoustic Research) AR9's that were fully updated from the crossovers to new foam by me. I've also go nestled away; Marantz 1060, Yamaha M-70, Yamaha M-45, Yamaha NS-1000's, JBL L-36's, Polk Monitor 7b's (peerless), and Polk SDA SRS 3.1TL's. I do a lot of refurbishment of vintage gear, and usually sell it off after completion. The gear that I've got now is stuff that I can not bring myself to part with. I've got parts to rework the crossovers in the 7b's, just have not made my way around to i t yet. The 3.1TL's are new to me and I'm gathering parts to rework them, stay tuned for a thread on them.

Thank you for contributing to such a great forum! Great to be here!

Mark

Well, I am certainly no rep for Emotiva, and I don't know what experiences people may have had with them here as I have been pretty specific in my reading on this forum, searching for exactly what Im looking for most of the time. I can say this; my experience has been nothing but fantastic and the gear I have from them sounds incredible. The numbers in the specs, and build quality (backed by a great warranty) of Emotiva gear doesnt lie, and neither do my ears. Dollar for dollar, watt for watt, these things sound as good or better than any expensive Levinson, Krell, or McIntosh gear I have owned. They are very neutral, not "warm", and I suspect that may be why some people do not like them. If somebody has first hand had a bad experience with them as a company rather than the product just not suiting thier listening taste, that is too bad, because it's really sad to see a whole forum tainted by what is most likely one, or a few negative reviews that have snowballed. There's other great brands, much more expensive brands (and I've owned them) that no doubt produce great product...but for me, until Emo screws me as a consumer...my money will stick with them.

Yes, the AR9's are fantastic. The more that my capacitors form in the speakers and in the Emo gear, the better they sound. I have a bit more work in store for them, specifically the attenuator section...and then they will be "done". Beautiful vintage speakers that are truly a joy to own. I'm excited about restoring the 7's...but even more excited about the 3.1TL's. The 3.1 TL's are going to spend some time in my shop while working on them, but eventually they'll probably be moved inside my house to be exchanged with the AR9's from time to time.

halo71, Gary, the 1000's are going to be a fun project. I'm going to convert them to an external crossover so that it will be easier to possibly run active someday with them. They'll be getting a lot of body work so that I can lay some piano black paint down on them, new modified badges made of acrylic "glass", and quite a few other mods. Stay tuned for a thread on those when I tear into them!

scottyboy, I can notify you when that happens...and the prices may be a steal, but I live in Alaska, so any "steal" price will be certainly dwarfed by the high shipping cost from here. Pretty much all my gear stays local, unless somebody is really willing to pay the price for shipping. That has happened for me in the past though with some of the more rare items I have acquired.

Hello John, I think you may have misunderstood what I wrote. I simply said that between testing the gear I had that was much more expensive than the Emo gear, my ears couldnt tell the difference. I wish that I had been blessed with sonic ears that could tell those difference, if in fact they were there.

My wallet is hidden, and I am on full alert! I'll consult my financial advisor, Dave Ramsey, before any purchases on this forum! haha.

I assure you, I am no troll and would be just as happy to drop the subject of Emotiva this/that just as much as the next guy. From the sounds of it, the subject has been exhausted around here, and I'm not looking to continue that for any reason.

    Shokdu,

No disrespect ment my friend. You comments of not being able to tell the difference between said amps may very well be true. However, "golden ears" in my opinion are not needed to hear that difference.

We have many members here who have gone down the same paths of entry level gear up to gear costing tens of thousands, so comments like that are hard to swallow for most. Anyway, no harm ment on my side, but there's an old saying I usually abide by, "know your audience". Peace friend and welcome to the club.

tonyb, No disrespect or offense taken. I don't get upset about internet forum dealings, a lot of what is said is just hear/say. The other parts are easily misconstrued, or just not eloquently worded in order to be clear about intent. It may have been my speaker combination, or other components that did not allow for the difference to become clear to me...but with the gear I did my back to back testings on, the difference (for me) was subtle, at best.

Obviously, the point of this thread was to get to know my audience...and boy, it's been an eye opener. Not what I expected on a Polk forum, because lets be honest...who associates Polk with high end audiophiles?

Can't say I understand this last post. Why should anyone "associate" a Polk forum with any "particular" stratum of Audiophile? It doesn't follow, since a LOT of members here don't even own a set of Polk speakers anymore. What an unusual thing to say?

On another note. Some nice speakers above. Love the AR9s--something special there. And of course classic Monitor 7Bs and SDAs always nice!

    Enjoy!

I do... There are lots of different kinds of audio here, up to and including some of the best gear ever made, DIY gear that is as good as the best stuff (or better) than the best gear on the planet.

This forum is easily the most well rounded audiophile group on the web. Sorry if we don't meet your rather lofty standards there Slick. I was ready to give you benefit of the doubt, but I am now beginning to smell troll as well.

Yes let's be honest! I gave you the benefit of the doubt after your Emo comments initially. That's why I commented above about not running the train off the tracks. But I am starting to agree with what Brock (H9) said above. You come to a Polk Audio forum then put down it's very existence by saying that? Don't get me wrong....I would not care if your favorite speakers were Panasonic Thrusters. You initially said that you have been busy using the search function to get all the info you needed. And you never saw all the locked Emo threads? Really? Sorry but your comments in this thread kinda seem like you are stirring the pot.

All I was saying is that a Polk forum is not the forum that I expected for a bunch of haters to be on. I expected the haters of "lesser" products would be on the forums of thier respective "grail" products.

Ok, but where is DIY gear associated with polk? Why not head over to diyaudio and tout that stuff? I'm here mainly to discuss my Polks, and that has been my intent all along.

My lofty standards? What about me screams lofty? After all, I run lowly, bright, Emotiva products.

I don't need any fluffly "kinder and gentler". You wanna show off how tough you are on the internet, go for it, you're the only one who can make a fool of yourself.

I used the search to find relative stuff to me, my Polk 7b's and the 3.1TL's. Why would I search for Emotiva threads on a Polk forum? After using this forum for a week straight researching the 3.1TL's I though the very least I could do would be to say hi and thank the members for supplying such great information on this website, as information on the 3.1's is pretty much non-existent anywhere else. You all are the ones who have turned it into oh so much more than that.
