"I really wanted to just sit back and watch this thread unfold but I have to ask after reading your last response... Will you be driving the same car in the next 10 years? How about 20? Perhaps it's a bit unfair to use a vehicle as a comparison but realistically, there is no difference as each does what you pay for it to do. Just more money usually gets you something better. Period."

You're right a car comparison is unfair. But to answer your question with a fair comparison,

I have 22 year old speakers, at least 10 yr old pre & amp, at least a 15 year old crt 32" tv all doing just fine. So YES some of us do keep what we have if it's working. Have I ever upgraded things because I wanted NEWER yes of course I have, but it didn't necessarily mean better. I bought a new Rotel RCD 1072 to replace my 855, there was absolutely no difference in the sound. A well made product is a well made product. Period.

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me what power amp I could have bought for the $450 I paid for my used XPA-5 that would best it in terms of sound quality. It beat the internal "amps" in my Denon 3805 and (3) Adcom 545's hands down.

I'm still keeping my eye out for good deal on a B&K 200.5 or a Parasound HCA-2205, but I have been very much impressed with the performance of the XPA-5 for its price. Again, the XPA isn't quite on par with my BAT VK-500, lol, but it is a good sounding piece of equipment nonetheless.

That's the point indeed. Good performance at the price point. And your BAT sounds better,
but costs $$$. This is exactly our point. As long as EMO fans understand it, all is well with the world.
Buy it, use it, enjoy it. I think most here have no problem with that.

I agree whole-heartidly with that point. My problem is that some people here make the assertion that Emo gear sounds crappy, at ANY price point, which is not true at all. I can't speak for their preamps, DAC's etc, but this power amp sounds good. Period. Especially for the price point. And yes, my ears work very well, and I have a particularly revealing system through which to judge amps.

I don't understand the point of saying "There's better stuff out there."

OF COURSE THERE'S BETTER STUFF OUT THERE!!! LOL. you could say that about ANY piece of gear!

But people here feel a NEED to say that every time someone brings up Emo! It's one thing if someone is professing that Emo is the best out there etc, but that NEVER, or RARELY, happens here! Someone will come on and say "hey I got a new Emo amp, it sounds pretty good", and the response is always "a more expensive amp will sound better". YEA NO ****! Genius!

Why should anyone assume that just because something costs more that it will automatically sound better? Couldn't be further from the truth. There's too many variables in play to put stock into such a blanket statement.

that was not the point of my post, and it was not meant to be taken a literal blanket truth. it was illustration.

I don't care if they use and like emo. But what happens is a bunch come over here
and start telling us we all wasted our money and are imagining the improvement
in sound. Pretty soon they grow in numbers and you can't have a gear thread without
    being ambushed by them.

When is the last time this has happened here?

Sorry, just seemed like it was being made out to be some bad 50's gang film where the Emo's are encroaching the Polkies territory.

I don't remember a thread in recent history that fits his description. May be they will lock the thread.

I don't believe in blind testing as they are notoriously misleading. Do you really think a SS receiver sounds the same as a pair of OTL tube mono blocks? That was the actual result of a blind test and clearly demonstrates that blind testing for audio is completely worthless.
So your reasoning is that because you don't like the results, they can't be reliable? funny

I've heard several SS components that sound like tube components, and vice versa.
