Spikes for SDA-SRS

I do believe I've got it figured out how to spike them and cause minimal damage to the flooring. I'm thinking I'll mark the exact spot they're in with masking tape and just lay them forward on the floor. Spike em and just stand them right back up. If it does scratch the floor up a bit so be it; it's for a good cause. It seems that everyone that trys the spikes likes them. I can't recall reading a post where someone removed them because the spikes didn't live up to their expectations. Let the spike hunt begin.

Get someone to help you that way all you have to do is tilt them up screw in one side put down the pads and ease the spikes down then repeat by tilting them the other direction and repeat the process..

My gf helps me anytime I want to remove/re-install the spikes. -
Now that sounds like an even better idea than mine. There shouldn't be any movement or damage from just tilting them. I think I'm more worried about losing the exact spot that they're in. It took me a long time to get the placement correct and I don't want to lose that and start from square one. This method though seems foolproof and that's exactly what I need.

Yes you did. Shortly after you posted the link with MP's thoughts on spikes. After reading that I had decided I wasn't spiking. My thoughts have changed now and I'm going to give it a shot. Too much to gain and too little to lose.
I have footers in the holes right now so I'm thinking spiking them is going to be a breeze. -

I'd have gone with something already set up for 1/4-20. -
That's what I get for ordering out of their catalog without my reading glasses:mad:. As soon as I posted that I noticed it was metric and luckily was able to cancel. This is what is coming instead http://www.adonacorporation.com/tweaks.html
I'm getting the large brass gold cones. -
Well my 1.2tl's are now spiked. And I'd like to thank everyone (yes even you f1nut) for giving me the push I needed to spike them. I didn't think there would be an improvement but there is an obvious improvement.
They came in yesterday and the install was a breeze. I marked the spot on floor where the 1.2s sat then laid them down on their faces. The spikes went right in without a hitch and then I wrestled the speakers back into their optimal spot. The flooring damage that I was so worried about didn't happen. If it did I can't see it. Improvements; the soundstage seems to have become deeper and possibly wider. I'm now able to make out lower level background instruments with more clarity and imaging seems to be a bit more precise and centered as well. Bass has also improved and I know it's not scientific but resting my hand on top of the speaker while it's playing tells me it's not vibrating anywhere near as much as it used to.
I'm glad though that I waited so I have a good idea of how much difference the spikes do make. Listening to them unspiked for the past year gave me a pretty good idea of how they sound.
If anyone is on the fence about spiking just do it. It's definately a worthwhile upgrade -
Great to hear you are enjoying the spikes, well worth the effort and money for those of you who are on the fence.
