Power went out at 3:15. Fortunately, 1) I have a generator, and 2) Cable and Internet still works. Nothing else bad has happened. Hope you all are OK.

Lights have been flickering but nothing permanent.

Roof is leaking. Two trees down. Very high winds and even more rain. Eye is about 25 miles west of me right now. Eye is about 50 miles wide. They are saying this isn't letting up until tomorrow night.

    Great.

Good Grief! Hurricane remnants in Ohio. 40-50 mph sustained winds all night.

We lost 2 large trees and my son's basketball hoop (somehow wind on the backboard bent the 3" tubing over backwards! I haven't been out to check yet but am guessing internal rust must also have been involved)

Ohio is so far inland you wouldn't expect much. Up here in Maine, (we're about 30 miles from the coast) schools have been closed for today, but to tell you the truth, outside of some heavy periods of rain (not long) and thunder storms, we still have power so far! We're also pretty far away. I suspect the marine forecasts are the worst.

Sympathies to the Jersey guys along the coast and in the South, it looks like you bore the brunt. Pics of Atlantic City, Point Pleasant and Asbury Park (all beaches frequented in my youth), show just how much damage Sandy has wrought. I can hardly recognize some of that coast.

    Stay safe!

Good lord, already had a friend call complaining that his power was not back on and the out of state people were just sitting in their trucks not doing anything but drinking coffee. I told him that it's STILL raining and perhaps they are REQUIRED to wait for the all clear signal before starting repairs.

He lives in a more expensive area and always picks on me for where I live (an older more modestly priced area), yet if a deer farts...his power goes out. I've gone through back to back blizzards, a tropical storm and now, a hurricane...not so much as a blip on the power front.

I hate hearing people complain about WHY their power is not back on before anyone else's!
    No excuses!

We made out well all things considered. The only problem we had was trying to get the dogs to go outside and do their business. A few limbs, a few fallen trees in the woods and lots of leaves and rain, but thats about it. Jersey seems like it got it much worse. The 40 degree temp drop was a bit if a wake up this morning though. Looks like our days of 75 degrees are finally over!

That's the problem with power crews- getting organized.
You have to have an organized plan and clear each step
to bring the grid back up. It's a bit more involved than throwing
a big breaker handle some where.

We made out really well considering. Power winked out, but we're good now. I am on the west side of NJ right on the Delaware river.

I feel sorry for all the people over at the shore, that place is a f#ckin mess...

I was lucky and escaped without any damage and I still have power in Northern NJ. Many people weren't so lucky. One of my neighbors had a massive tree fall on his property..

I have talked to my kids and friends that live in south NJ..Pretty much if you live by the water your toast. The NJ shore is nothing but a big washed out mess.

The people i know live more inland...at least 10 miles off the water. There houses are intact, but there is no power anyplace. The gas and water lines are intact. So they have water, if you have a gas stove...you can cook something. But for heat, unless you have a fireplace, or a wood burning stove..your out of luck.

Hopefully it will not get too cold up there, but not much you can do about it.

Hopefully they can restore power in the next few days. If not then whatever food you may have had in the fridge will be bad at that point. Not a pleasant thing to deal with.

Hope everybody survived without any serious issues. Be careful outside in case there are hot wires down.
