Sick with the flu..

Glad to hear your feeling better, I had the same thing last week ended up crawling into bed around noon thursday of last week and didn't get back up till this tuesday. No blowing grocery's or praying to the porcelain god but sure felt like it. I'm getting a flu shot next week also so that means I'll be feeling like crap again for about 24 - 48 hours. Oh the horror of modern medicine.“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” ~ Mark Twain

Got my flu shot last week. One should feel some effect from it as the body fights the invasion. That's how antibodies are made to fight off the real thing. I'll take the slight discomfort compared to the real flu any day.>

Hold your horses there Teekay, you are making WAY too many assumptions about what I would do as far as putting people at risk! If I happened to get the flu or any other kind of infectious virus, I have enough common sense to STAY HOME! I would not go in and infect everyone else and even when I would go back, I would not go to see the patients until I was fairly sure I had it under control.
I also would be smart enough to know when I need to see my doctor if my symptoms worsened. A lot of those deaths could probably be prevented if people would go the the hospital or see their doctors.
So take your condescending tone and take a hike!:frown:
By the time you noticed symptoms you could have already exposed MANY people, some who easily could have been very immunocompromised - you can't always tell by looking at someone - and therefore at a much higher risk of illness, complications or death. If I went in to our busy clinic and had been exposed to the flu virus just the night before, I could easily and unknowingly (asymptomatic) put 75-to-100 people directly at risk of exposure. In turn, they could then go home, to work, or school and put countless others at risk.
Glad you wouldn't go see patients upon returning from a FLU-related absence until you were "fairly sure" you had it under control! Sadly, that's much better than many others who would decide to just "tough it out" all the way through and not miss any work at all.
Ever heard of nosocomial infection, cfrizz? It's a HUGE problem in this country, leading to countless additional hospital days, re-infections, complications and deaths. That's just what's needed, bring all the infectious viruses - that could have easily been prevented - in to the doctors' offices and the hospitals.
No condescending tone intended....until the following:
Let's see, you could have gotten a flu shot, but you passed. Hmmm....at least you don't work around susceptible people. Oops, forgot that you said that you work with patients. Hmmm....must have been really inconvenient for you. Oh, what's that, they were administering them at your workplace? Hmmm....must have been really expensive. Oh, what's that, they were free? Hmmm....must have been a really long hall down to the room where they were doing the vaccinations. Well...had you just explained it like that to me in the first place, I would have understood your point much better.
AND it's not only the elderly and/or immunocompromised who are put at additional risk. Not by a long shot: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/49465633/ns/health-cold_and_flu/t/teens-death-shows-how-flu-can-kill-flash/#.UICFmZaYV1g.email -
You do realize though, when getting a flu shot, you are actually given a very small dose of the flu virus so if your immune system is on the weak side guess what ? Your gonna get sick.
.
You are given a small dose of DEAD flu virus and some flu particles, nothing that can replicate additional viruses. You CAN'T get the FLU from the vaccination! -

You can say that again...and again, and again, and again, please!! The ignorance/misinformation out there, running rampant in our society, is quite astounding. -
As someone in the social sciences, I'm usually "not" one for arguing from a "single" personal example as many do all the time so I will just share my experience for this year's flu shot.
I was in my Doctor's office (shot is covered by insurance) and she asked if I'd had the shot. I said no, she asked, would I want one. I said OK. The nurse came in and administered it; I honestly did not even feel a needle go into my arm. I felt "nothing". The next day I spent an hour and a half in the gym pumping iron as usual, nothing unusual. More than a week has passed no effects, perfectly normal. I'm back in the gym tomorrow. Now, one example "never" proves anything. But my experience last year and the year before that was pretty much the same.
Time for some Chocolate, boys all this talk of "illness" is making me hungry!

Technically speaking, your right, it's the nasal spray that has the live virus. Still, many people get sick after a flu shot, some almost die too. Has to be other garbage in it other than dead virus cells. Could be allergies from eggs too that cause ill effects. Either way a flu shot can be beneficial for some, not so much for others.
I'm always sceptical when a campaign is brought about that pushes a shot, or any other medicine to the extreme of you must get it. Chalk it up to age, as you get older you get less trusting of people.HT SYSTEM-

It may be all kinds of things in the shot. They put some weird stuff, like bread crumbs, etc. to cause a reaction at the injection point. The object is to get the body to react at the site.>

Interesting.....that after the CDC started pushing flu shots for everything that crawls, deaths in children from the flu actually went up.HT SYSTEM-

My daughter a registered nurse who works in a Dallas Texas hospital got her's last week and said she felt a little off for a day or two.
I haven't got one in 10+ years, in other words I don't remember when I ever got one. They are free at work, that scares me, I would rather pay $20 for one, are the free ones as good, hmmm. I don't get sick, one day my heart will just stop.teekay0007 wrote: »You can say that again...and again, and again, and again, please!! Hope you live to a 100 man. But to tell you the truth, the guys "who never get sick" are usually the first to go and they go fast! It's the always sick or almost sick dudes with the overly active immune systems that are always on duty who never get anything "serious" and just die of old age, natural causes. lol

That doesn't compute my man. If you have an over active immune system, why would you get sick ? Doctors are always recommending super charging your immune system and for good reason. Us old farts especially.

Of course there is some hyperbole above! I've just heard of too many stories of guys who never had a cold or a headache and then were diagnosed with something far worse than having a few colds and headaches a year? And just died. In other words, they actually had something festering within them for 15-25 years but didn't have a clue.
I also don't trust people who claim they've never had a cold or headache or...? Too many allergens, pollutants, toxins, etc., in our food and environment to NOT feel some effects from that. There are also vast differences in "sensitivity" and number of things like pain receptors between individuals. Some people are just more "sensitive" than others. Often those who are, feel more of what's wrong than those who are impervious, or feel nothing because they have faulty sensors (so to speak).

Hope you feel better Larry. Sorry you feel bad. Take care. I received the faceplate for the AI-1 case. Thank you very kindly. (It doesn't contain the flu virus does it?)
Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion."
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

teekay0007 wrote: »Vaccinations are NEVER administered in a hospital
Untrue. -
Hey Shizelbs, please don't EVER take a snippet of a statement of mine out of context and say it's untrue. Wow! What?.....are you, or do you work for, a politician? To find that little sentence fragment and draw out of it what you did really takes talent!
What I said was:
"You should NEVER need a doctor's visit to receive a routine vaccination, they are always administered by nurses, tech's, etc. Vaccinations are NEVER administered in a hospital, and therefore generate no money for them, unless you are already a patient there for something else."
And I'll stand by that and allow you to prove me wrong. NOBODY goes to a hospital specifically to just get routine vaccinations, it simply wouldn't be cost effective. Routine vaccinations are given in clinics and pharmacies and recently, even in stores sometimes. All these settings have one MAJOR factor in common over hospitals and that is that for VAX administrations, they add very little or no additional overhead to do so. -
You're right. I didn't finish the sentence.
Take a deep breath man.
