Sorry to hear that. How do you know it's a Flu? A little early for the season, isn't it? I got my Flu shot about a week ago or so (of course they're not always effective!).

    Lots of fluids! Beer?

Listen to some tunes, rest, get well soon!

My oldest son had something last week and I have NEVER seen so much liquid come out of a person in my life. Good thing my bath tub sits right next to the toliet or it would of been messy.
    Good luck Larry

Yea we all got our flu shots last week, so hopefully that's not it. I just am praying that this doesn't spread to the whole fam, I've got three small children so it could get ugly!!!

It's not very likely any of this is the FLU yet. As someone surrounded by college kids who spend most of their week getting drunk and sleeping with each other, I can tell you that once the semester begins, we have viral episodes every few weeks, probably have some right now.

As for Flu shots, sometimes they work sometimes they don't but they usually do NOT cause what they are created to protect against. Besides, boys, didn't you read that there will be a UNIVERSAL FLU vaccination that will protect against all forms in less than 10 years!

Can you say ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE!! Are you ready?

My hospital held a free flu shot clinic for staff yesterday, I passed on it. I had just seen on the news the other day that the amount that is given to you is so little that nine times out of ten, it's useless if you get the flu.

Sorry is right...To think you can get the FLU from the shot is just plain ignorance! The vaccine only has DEAD viruses and viral particles, nothing that can replicate and cause the FLU. Once vaccinated, your immune system then should build up a defense for these foreign objects and attack them if introduced to your body again (ie. exposure to an influenza virus). The vaccines can't be expected to be effective against all variations of the flu virus. Viral mutations occur during replication (antigenic drift) giving viruses several different "faces", some less recognizable as foreign to your body's defenses as others.

Vaccinations are only the best guess of researchers at facilities like the Center for Disese Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) as to what are the most common and most virulent strains of virus likely to be seen in world populations. They make vaccines that will stimulate the immune systems against those strains. YES, one who's been vaccinated can still get the FLU, but it was NOT caused by the FLU shot and it will likely be a less-severe bout since their immune system will still be partially effective against the given strain.

    Yes, ignorance is BLISS!

You should NEVER need a doctor's visit to receive a routine vaccination, they are always administered by nurses, tech's, etc. Vaccinations are NEVER administered in a hospital, and therefore generate no money for them, unless you are already a patient there for something else.

Please give some specifics of your silly statement. I'm assuming that you have some, making such a bold, uninformed conclusion.

I know you're just being funny here, but you'd be surprised at how many people think this actually works to ward off the FLU and the common cold. There's NEVER been a valid study proving preventative effectiveness gained by using Vit C, echinacea, zinc or many other wonder cures/preventions.

No, they NEVER cause what they are created to protect against.

There will NEVER be a "universal" FLU vaccination. That's impossible with the high rates of antigenic drift (the small changes from mutations in the flu virus that make one year's vaccination ineffective on the strains of the following year) and antigenic shift (the complete changes in the very proteins the the viruses are made up of - ie. what influenza pandemics thoughout history are caused by). Also, if there's a VAX available 10 years from now, what good does that do anyone today?

The internet is your friend. Look it up. Can't remember the reference but it was reputable AMA approved research. It spoke of a way to attack the protein coat of ANY and all flu viruses regardless of their ability to mutate-the idea being what holds them together would disappear and they'd be unable to function. The research is under way. And it will be here in a decade or less.

You're right, it won't help people now. But when and if the VAX is available, will we still have the skepticism above?

I can only assume that you work in a hospital. If so, and from your very uninformed statement, I can see how the general public gets the wrong ideas that they have. Many "outsiders" probably look to you for correct information "since you work in a hospital".

You just taking your chances would be fine with me if it was only your chances you were taking. If you are in contact with patients or others who are in contact with patients and you have had exposure to flu viruses, you are directly or indirectly putting them at risk of exposure/infection from your actions. Many of these patients had compromised immune systems (ie. cancer, HIV, other infectious diseases) prior to their admissions and others (ie. post-op) have compromised immune systems since their admissions. Remember FLU KILLS!! Thousands, many of which were normal healthy people prior to getting the FLU, die as a direct result of having the FLU each year in the United States each year. Please reconsider your choice....or, at least when you're in sight of patients or someone who might be in sight of patients anytime in the near future, do them all a favor and just don't breathe. That would be great.

We'll ALWAYS have skepticism and that's a good thing, to a point. People shouldn't just follow along like a bunch of sheep. Heck, that's how **** Germany came about, isn't it? I'm just saying people should use their own natural rationing abilities while becoming informed and let the skepticism subside in the face of irrefutable evidence.

AND be careful taking the advice of celebrities as that of an "expert".

Hold your horses there Teekay, you are making WAY too many assumptions about what I would do as far as putting people at risk! If I happened to get the flu or any other kind of infectious virus, I have enough common sense to STAY HOME! I would not go in and infect everyone else and even when I would go back, I would not go to see the patients until I was fairly sure I had it under control.

I also would be smart enough to know when I need to see my doctor if my symptoms worsened. A lot of those deaths could probably be prevented if people would go the the hospital or see their doctors.

Never had a flu shot and never will, thats me though. Not going to say if it's right or wrong for anyone, our bodies are all different. You do realize though, when getting a flu shot, you are actually given a very small dose of the flu virus so if your immune system is on the weak side guess what ? Your gonna get sick.
