Yup, I know where Jasper is. I am actually in Zionsville, but thats still basically Indianapolis. I live near the Pyramids on the NW side of 465 if that means anything to you"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." i agree with the 100 posts to sell but I'm sure it was said many times before then we get useless posts to up the post count. i don't like the idea of 100 posts to just view the items for sale which i like to to do. I've been a member a long time and have bought several items over the years and sold a couple too.
Well at least you have 100 post now. At Posts Per Day: 0.03 I may have to lurk at lot more years to be able to see for sales! -

Lurkers irk me. Your telling me there isnt one question you have about audio? Or that you setup isnt worth posting and asking for advice on setup, etc. That one question or picture might spark a great discussion that both gives you more audio knowledge and increases your post count to above 100."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
Many of us come here to read and learn and occasionally shop. It makes no sense to keep posting meaningless stuff just to get to 100 posts. If there are particular individuals who are abusing the forum then they can be banned. This rule will not deter a determined abuser who will simply post random nonsense to get to 100 posts.
USP - Do you think that this hasn't been tried....and we've waited for your insight? With all due respect....C'mon man. Our FM is awesome and on par with anything on Audiogon so it has and will be protected. Polk Audio has no responsibility to maintain it at all yet they do and the 100 post issue has been so run over its not even funny. So we increase it to 200? 300? and waste more and more time? Whatever. The fact is it's hidden and there's not a single product that will be lost to the infinite masses because of it. If more money can be had elsewhere, fantastic and the world is better for it.
No one will cry a river and create a thread about something lost on eBay, instead of our FM. If you come here to make a fast buck, not gonna happen anymore. If you come here for knowledge and some information? It's an oyster with as many pearls or sand as you could possibly wish to find.
You joined in 2009, 59 Posts and NOW its an issue? Wow.

I guess I do things differently. I read more looking for answers than I post asking for help. I do this on most of the forums I visit. There is a lot of good information here and on other sites if you just do some digging. -
Lurkers rule....I'm one, just not here....when did that become awful?CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

So the sub-100 post counters are crying up a **** storm cause this lil ole website has rules they don't like. When I encounter a forum on the web that has rules I don't like, I remember that I have 2 choices...
1. Suck it up and deal with it, or
2. Don't go back to that forum
You could always create your own website and have your own set of rules that fit your liking. Polk pays for and owns this website. It can have whatever rules it wants. No excuses! -
Lurkers rule....I'm one, just not here....when did that become awful?
Let me rephrase it, people that lurk and dont post and then get annoyed when there is a post count requirement in one section of the forum irk me.
But I am speaking for myself here.
I do lurk on some other forums, but I totally understand and don't get mad about area's I don't qualify for post count wise (like for instance on TheCarverSite where I cant post in the Karma section). It doesn't bother me that I cant participate there because its an area for folks contributing to the community and to the dialog, not just lurking. And in those instances, I am not participating, hence I dont get those benefits. Heck you can lurk without a username on this site if you just want to lurk.
As doro said, this site is provided to us at no cost to us. It costs Polk time and money to both run it and also have employees moderate and check it. The fact they have continued to update it, provide us with free demo products to review and other goodies is MORE than most manufactures do."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
I knew what you meant overall ES, no worries....and I'm sure others did as well. It is a bit of early and new posters raising concern when all they need to do is continue to contribute and post....very simple. There is always at least one person that is crazy pissed off and that's just the way it goes. That's the member we don't need anyways.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

So how does one get their name added to the list? Mine isn't on the new list.

If your talking about the sales ranking thread, its not totally finished yet. My name is also omitted from the list, but I believe Doro said he hasn't had time to update it yet and wont till after Polkfest."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." What does "to lurk" mean in the context of Forum use? Is it different from "to browse," and implies that the individual is waiting in the wings to exploit for personal financial gain the considerable good will that the Forum generates among participants?
I am concerned because I have no desire to gain financially from the Forum, but I have certainly benefitted greatly from contributions of others. I am well aware that I shall never be able to make "technical" contributions that equal the benefits I have enjoyed, but I'm happy to contribute the more subjective opinions that I have and to ask questions that may lead to conversations that will help others, as well as help me.Family Room, Innuos Statement streamer (Roon Core) with Morrow Audio USB cable to McIntosh MC 2700 pre with DC2 Digital Audio Module; AQ Sky XLRs to CAT 600.2 dualmono amp, Morrow Elite Speaker Cables to NOLA Baby Grand Reference Gold 3 speakers. I had not planned on adding more of my "insight" as you called it but since you addressed me directly, I am replying. Several things to note... I think you yourself realize the absurdity of the new rule when you ask should we increase it to "200? 300?" Clearly, this is a private forum and you can make any rule you want. I just think creating rules for who can view (not buy) seems strange. I am not upset or angry or bitter or pissed or any other charged emotion...just amused!
As for several of the others who seemed to think that my complaint is about not being able to sell, perhaps they should read what I was complaining about. -

"Lurkers" are normally folks that have accounts for very long periods of time and read but rarely if ever post or contribute. For instance someone with a account for over a year with say 10 posts or less total in that time. It does not imply trying to exploit for financial gain. Given your recent participation on the forum you would not qualify as one.
Lurking it totally fine and acceptable, however once must realize that there are benefits to being a member of the community and participating in the group discussions and the Flea Market is now one."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Lurker just sounds so seedy. Needs a better name! (one post closer).

EndersShadow,
"Lurk" has a pejorative, even sinister connotation. Here's a quote from the Apple dictionary's definition: "(of a person or animal) be or remain hidden so as to wait in ambush for someone or something; a ruthless killer still lurked int eh darkness."
I'm happy not to be perceived as a lurker!
Cheers,

I would like to recind my I am a lurker statement then! -
So why again is the 100 and under crowd, that have been members for a while here now....JUST now complaining about this rule? No need to complain. Polk owns the forum therefor makes the rules here. How simpler of a concept can there be?--Gary--

I have only been a member for a month or so. I don't have an electrical engineering degree and I've already been schooled on posting something on here that you aren't willing to defend. I built a thread about repairing a MW6511 complete with pictures. I've bought $275 worth of speakers from Polk and a CP member. I really had no idea this was a serious issue. I've been pretty tongue-in-cheek about the 100 thing. I'm hoping not to get banned for anything. I have learned a ton and made some personal connections from my participation here. I'm very glad to be a part of the forum. The trick now is to try to post without one of the mega-posters accusing you of trying to boost post counts...

Man, some of you guys need to stop getting your panties in a knot over this. Once your part of the forum on a regular basis, you get pretty protective of it. We have had many fly by nighters posting like a jack rabbit to sell their stuff. It's about keeping the integrity of the FM, for members, from other members, without the worries associated with an Ebay style site. So yeah...we can get uptight about it at times, but it works out well.
We have a good gig going on here, and I know Polk can pull the plug at anytime. We like to feel like family around here so we protect it as such, scrutinize as such, and insult one another as such, but in the end we have each others backs....and Polk has all of ours too and that goes a very long way for an internet forumHT SYSTEM-

I don't like having to log in to see things for sale, but I'm ok with a little personal inconvenience if its for the overall good of the forum.
Looks like this rule may have an unintended benefit: getting some long time lurkers to post. So far it seems like a pretty good group of guys who just prefer to read and not post. Trust me on one thing...you've got as much to add to the forum as me.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -
I only noticed the "new rule" about 100 posts being required to see For Sale ads today.
I'm glad that this only recently went into effect or I would not have been able to order the steel support rings for my SRS 2.3tl's and SRS 3.2tl's. And I wouldn't have seen Doug's SRT system up for sale. And am I glad I bought them. What a system.
So , I'll keep plugging away at my post count until I am "worthy" (where is that rude noise tongue emoticon when you need it?) -
