I got two huge boxes with cherry veneer outer layer that i have been staining last few days ( several coats).

what do I have to put inside ? They will be both powered by my B&K amp. What kind of foam or insulation do I need?

I have never done that and i don't want some fancy expencive material but something that will do the job. Also, how do I attach it - glue? or just stuff it in?

Too expensive , i have been building car and home subs for 20+ years , on smaller car subs 1 cu foot I use regular house wall insulation it gets stapled every 6 inches so it looks kinda puffy , I have gone the exact cabinet volume from the manufacture and tried no insulation than the above method , the insulated method sounded deeper .
My big sub 7 cubic after all the braces I used 2" of wall insulation , I use polyfill ( from the fabric store) but to my ears a complete fill ( unlike tacking to walls ) has less bang for the buck . I have used dynamat foam the ebay stuff in ravaneli's repley ( I found a box at work ) anything works as long as its not to dense . Now ported cabinets if done right wont need insulation . I built a ported sub once it sounded wrong even though it was tuned at 23 hz , so just go max size and seal it with a thin layer of insulation on the walls if you are going minimum just do the wall past the magnet only you will find the sub more punchy .
NO glue the ?alcohol? will rot the surround if you put it in before it dries ( a few days after it stops stinking ) .

i will get some pics tomorrow. Already ordered the eggcrate foam. Found 40 sq feet for 50 bucks.. i need only 15 but i can use it on something else.

I actually got the boxes for free because they arrived with a small damage to a couple of the corners and i wanted to return them. The vendor didn't want them back and just refunded me in full and left me the boxes. They were 1" MDF and cherry veneer. Very thick and solid. After all the stain and polyurethane they look fat and gorgeous, even with the sloppy stain job I did. Now I don't want to cut corners and ordered good insulation and some HUGE posts, bigger than mu thumb.

My subs already sound great (to me) in the tiny and thin car subwoofer boxes, but those are trapezoidal and have worn out carpet on the outside and are from 3/4 " mdf and i can feel them vibrate when they hit. No insulation either. I can't wait to hear these..

One of the most important things to remember is to have an airhole in the box so your speakers don't over heat or anything.

i can't find anything about filling the sub box. people use all kinds of stuff, there are no guidelines.

now what about the glue? How do i attach the foam? that comment about the glue rottening the mdf... that concerns me..

You could order Dacron Batting from Parts Express, or use what I do in 99% of my builds, Polyfill. It comes in Bags, and is available at Walmart or any good Fabric Store. Same damping properties as Dacron, for a lot less money.

No, the voice coil is so big on subs that they get overheated so you cool them by way of an airhole. I think the straw is a great idea too since it will give the bass an organic sound that you won't get with man made materials.

i know it's sloppy, with stain not evenly distributed, but for me it's good enough :)
