Good news. It seems the annoying 3D bubble is bursting, and will soon be over.

I've seen two movies in 3D that I didn't feel bad paying for. Tron and Prometheus. Everything else was crap. Worst was Alice in Wonderland by far!

Even then, watching at home in boring 2D Tron is still as visually appealing as in 3D...And while 3D made some things look very cool, and acutally never bothered me in Prometheus, I suspect the result will be the same...I won't be missing anything watching it at home on 2D!

My family and I happen to love our 3d set. Every bluray I purchase is in 3d when available. Resident Evil Afterlife was very good. Just my opinion, but I hope its stays and gets better. I also would like to see 48fps as a standard along with 2k4k, but thats probably just me.

FYI 3D is not on its way out, in this article it states that 3D tv's have gone up 14%. All that has happened is that 3D is slightly slumping and this is down to the fact that people have just stopped watching 3D movies for the fact that they are in 3D. Some folks are wakening up to the fact that some movies are crap and 3D wont make them any better

Many movies are just too difficult to make in 3D, when I watched ghost rider 2 3D I checked out the making on the special features and the directors explained that they started out using 3D. The shooting was too difficult for them to achieve their intended effects so they just converted to 3d in post production and that made the 3D effect crap. Movies must be made in native fp 3D for the effect to look good.

I love watching a good flick in 3D as opposed to a traditional flat image and Hugo is a prime example. My 3D tv is the worst purchase I have made because it simply looks garbage on a below 60" box. 3D must be viewed at least 100" for it to have the desired depth and effect and not everyone gets the opportunity to do this on an active 3D setup but if you did you would be blown away. If you ever watched a boxing match or any sports you would enjoy it for sure

Many people will hate on 3d without ever giving it a shot or playing a good game

The biggest problem is if a movie is filmed in 3d vs post production conversion. The vast majority of 3d is post production converion and not originaly filmed in 3d. In fact I can only name 3 filmed 3d movies and it shows greatly when you watch them. Resident Evil Afterlife, the newest Underworld and Avatar. I am a 3d fan and will continue to watch its progress.

3D can SUCK IT!!! I saw Promethus and Amazing Spiderman in 3D in the theaters and I gotta be honest , it doesn't do anything for the story , action or sound. If anything I'm annoyed by wearing the glasses. My 16 year old son wears glasses and he had to put the 3D ones over his , they don't offer a clip on or anything for people who wear glasses which I think sucks ****.

I hate sitting there with them. I take them off from time to time to give my face a rest from it.
My customers get excited for 3D when we Install it for them and then when I go back for a follow up , they don't use the 3D anymore due to the glasses. It's like a record with a bad scratch. It's the same story over and over.

Bring on 4k , no glasses and TV's and Projectors with NO features , just pure video performance.

My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time.

Agreed with obieone. Until 4k/48fps becomes the norm, I'll stick with what I've got!

Mantis, I feel you and your son's pain. I have to wear contacts if I'm going to attempt any movie, and most theaters 3d absolutely sucks. The ONLY one I've found that is not all out distracting is the one closest to me, a Cinemark theater that uses Barco projectors. Everything else looks like absolute crap.

I'm a huge 3D fan... When it's done properly. That said, the Nintendo 3DS did not do it properly, and most televisions do not do it properly.

I see this more as consumers getting tired of crappy 3D. But I've seen plenty of movies (in theaters) that were incredible in 3D, so much so that I'd say if you didn't see it in 3D then you missed part of the movie. Avatar is of course one of them, but probably the 2nd best 3D movie I've seen is Coraline. Then there's Up, Tron, How to Train Your Dragon, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs...

I get the whole purest stance that if a movie is good it doesn't need the gimmick of 3D, but I also disagree that it's always a distracting gimmick. I'd hate to see it disappear entirely.

BTW some people make the same argument against surround sound.

4K and higher frame rate over 3D any day. If you have a realistic enough picture, you brain will see it as three dimensional.

I'm now on my third 3D Mitsubishi DLP (the new 73840 diamond series) and i've never once tried the 3D feature haha. The first two needed the emitter kit and glasses, this one has it built in and I can't even bring myself to spend $35 on a pair of glasses to try it out. Bring on the 4k and i'll be upgrading.

IMO the only proper way to do 3D is like they do it in the theaters with polarizing filters. Anything else is going to be sub-par. And you can already get your prescription glasses tinted for 3D viewing, so that you don't have to wear 3D glasses over your regular glasses, or you can buy clip-ons for just a few dollars.

But to get proper 3D in the home would require an expensive projector setup, IMO. I'm happy to leave 3D in the realm of the movie theaters. If it's a movie I really want to see, I'll go see it in IMAX 3D if it's available, or just regular 3D if not. Otherwise I'll just wait for it on Netflix.

Well after watching 3D at home and going to the theater I have to say that my epson 5010 beats my local cinema. The contrast and brightness cant be matched and this adds to a better 2d/3d viewing experience

I don't really think nintendo is in any kind of position to describe weather something is fading away. If they were they would have described Nintendo as a whole fading away.

I have a 3D tv and play PS3 and BluRay in 3D. I am sure the old die hard Stereo guys said the same thing about surround sound. There just wasn't an internet forum to complain about it on.

It is nice to see you guys enjoying taking away something that other people like. The whole "I don't like it so no one can have it" attitude is real nice.

    You forgot skinny jeans.....

3D was in but not the explosion they assumed it would be. 4K tv's and projectors will sell like hotcakes once they come out, then it will be 5k. Personally, I like a good 3d movie.....once in a while, not constantly, so the investment isn't worth it to me. Others of course like it alot but enough to carry the whole 3d industry ? Hmmm.....maybe not. They keep comming up with stuff to get you to buy new gear every other year, who can afford that ? Good thing is, the used market gets cheaper by the day.
