Technics Thursday here... :-P
This is an SA-5360; one model year older than the SA-500 above, but roughly the same ecological niche (I think).

remarkably beefy power transformer...
Interesting thing about both of the Technicses above -- the AM and FM front ends are profoundly unimpressive in both the SA-500 and the SA-5360. The FM has a three-gang tuning capacitor, the AM only two gangs... but the FM radios are good in both and the AM sections are exceptional... there are among the very few 1970s massmarket receivers I've had that were competent for AM DX. Both Technics will pick up WBZ in Boston (ca. 120 miles distant) in the daytime (AM groundwave) at our house in NH... the only SS receivers in the house that I know of that'll do so.
Note the little internal AM ferrite antennae, too. Remarkable radio performance from these two, all things considered. -

Why would we not believe that? ;-)
The SA-8500 is a nice - and nicely built - amplifier. -

^ Mikey- Nice amp. I have a M80 and also a M70. Most of them tend to have caps that leak over time. Have you had any repair work done to yours or checked the main caps? My M80 still sounds great, but I think it will need serviced for the above soon. The 70 sounds decent, but one side has a little less output than the other.2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer.

The MikeRIDER edition? KITT!
Nice piece. Don't know what Mark is referring to unless we're going to call the meters "fireworks"?

re: Randy's comment - think about what cars and clothes looked like ca. 1978... it makes the clean styling of the Yamaha hardware even more remarkable, I'd opine! :-)
re: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=98896&d=1403521271
1) looks like these two components are sitting atop a beautiful chest.
2) is that other component in the picture an early NAD amplifier? -
The chest is pretty nice - it's lined with cedar and kept together with brass bands and bolts. Got it at an estate sale for $50. Really beautiful and smells nice!
The other amp is a NAD 3080 I was babysitting for RRomeo for a while. I'll post some pictures of it here in a min. I did a comparo with the two amps on my blog.

I love the Yamaha too esp the preamp - very clean!!

Nice find! The TX-2500 and TX-4500 are literally what saved Onkyo from disappearing, then they produced the more powerful TX-6500 and the TOTL TX-8500. Then came the MKII versions in the late '70s.
Don't know much about the TX-5000. It seems like an early '80s cousin to the Pioneer fluroscans with digital readouts. Probably still a pretty powerful 65 watts x 2.
Enjoy!

It wasnt a easy task. I was on my Motorbike & i had my backpack & it took me 20mins to get it to fit w/o damaging it when i got home i cut the bag just to get it out without damage. Lol. What a powerful unit & sounds quite well & boy the lights are purdy..

Indeed, nice piece -- but someday you really should take a better photo of her!

Re: RT-901 Nice piece; looks great! Has it been rehabbed?
As an aside - you don't see the 901 (or the 7" RT-701) very often, but - given the choice - I'd rather have one of these than the auto-reverse RT-909 (or the 7" RT-707). Just seems like less to go wrong with the one-way machines!
And as an even more pointless, ego-centric aside: I've got to get crackin' on the rehab of my RT-909... someday. -
darn unit is too wide. But there is some..
-
Sorry...was uploading the pics to Photobucket so I could post them inline.
Anyway, has been fully rehabbed. I am still negotiating on price and want it as more of a display piece than anything."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

ZLTFUL i apologize. Before you posted the pic i thought you were asking if i had a rt901 thats all i saw-before pics came up. Wasnt trying to take over thread. Thats a beautiful unit sir. Sure it sounds very nice too. Very easy on the eyes..

we can have a Pioneer R2R chapter... ;-)
Now, anyone here have one of the previous generation of top-end Pioneer 'prosumer' decks? E.g., an RT-1022?
I do not (although I wouldn't mind havin' one...) :-(
