What the hell were they thinking?

That is the way all these threads start, and end up. The vocal conservative minority just pat each other on the back with their platitudes...
Exactly... and I would define "minority" to mean a teeny tiny minority of Polkies. Same guys over and over.SystemLuxman L-590AXII Integrated Amplifier|KEF Reference 1 Loudspeakers|PS Audio Directream Jr|Sansui TU-9900 Tuner|TEAC A-6100 RtR|Nakamichi RX-202 Cassette -

So I guess that means that conservatives are the real "rebels" while the libs just think they are?

Minority ?? I guess come november we will find that out. Just because only a few speak up doesn't mean that those who don't aren't as conservative as the rest. Granted there's always 2 sides to that coin, and honestly, so what. It's the way the system was set up anyway. Conservative, liberal, independant, who cares what label you attach to yourself, it's what you do that matters, not what you say. There's a Melloncamp song in there somewhere.HT SYSTEM-

So ? Still dig his music. Or am I suppose to hate the dude because of his views ? See, unlike the left, who hates everyone not lockstep with their views, most on the right look for common ground to move forward instead of hating the other side. Thats not to say that some on the right are just as extreme as some on left. I know I'm kinda painting with a broad brush here, but it's pretty easy to see the haters usually originate on the left side of the field.HT SYSTEM-

Amen brother.
I can honestly say that quite a few of my best friends are very left-wing.

Yeah, it's best not to talk about anything because someone might disagree or not care. So if you ever have a thought just keep it in your head.

Why would someone register as a new member, find a thread about a subject they are not interested in, read through some, or all, of the 225 comments on that subject that are not interested in, feel the need to comment on a subject that they are not interested in, and on their very first post tell us that they are not interested in the subject and that others shouldn't be either.Norh ACA-2B tube pre, Sumo Andromeda SS amp. What the hell were they thinking.... when.... that's a damn good question.
I was in the military for 20 years, never paid for a doctors visit the whole time. The downside is if they amputate the wrong limb you can't sue them.
Wait, doesn't that solve both problems - affordable health care and no malpractice insurance?
Many military doctors graduate from The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Pay their debt to the federal government through their Military Service and move on, or stay and make a career of the medical practice along with their military service.
As far as I can tell the status quo is a rationed health care system, those of us who can afford insurance get a modicum of care that is "affordable", and those in our society that cannot afford health care are essentially rationed out of the system. They visit emergency rooms for chronic, routine, and acute conditions that would be better treated or managed through a family practitioner.
If in fact the US were to adopt a model that says that every citizen is entitled basic family health care as a basic human right and that the onus is on society to provide for that for the common good, then clearly a tax would be levied on the population to pay for that. What you would end up with is essentially what i had with mililtary doctors and hospitals for 20 yrs. Free health care, (paid for with taxes), and no right to sue any doctors for malpractice.
Also i'm sure you'd end up with some co-operatives, Cadillac plans, where private practitioners would join together and offer their services to those in our society willing and able to pay for specialized and exceedingly good care. (this already exists).
Once again we'd have a two-tiered system. But instead of the two-tiered system we have now that consists of no preventative health care and condition management for the 40% of the population this is under/non insured, we'd have a two-tiered system where the lower 70 or 80% would have national health care and the upper crust could pay for their Cadillac plans and complain about paying taxes that contribute to the common good.
i mean... What the hell were they thinking when they allowed Health Maintenance Organizations and Health Insurance Companies to become publicly traded and owned corporations that have to report a profit to shareholders. Talk about a your basic contradiction of purposes.

Minority ?? I guess come november we will find that out.
The only reason the GOP has a chance in November is because they nominated a liberal . I'm not enamored of Obama but at least he got the ball rolling on the health care issue. More work to be done. I don't think the current version of the GOP is up to the task or can be trusted. We need Reagan back.SystemLuxman L-590AXII Integrated Amplifier|KEF Reference 1 Loudspeakers|PS Audio Directream Jr|Sansui TU-9900 Tuner|TEAC A-6100 RtR|Nakamichi RX-202 Cassette -

First of all, thank you for your service and all others who have, are, and will.
For putting your life at risk at any given moment, you should have medical care paid for.
I disagree that medical care is a basic human right-we in this country have many luxuries that other humans do not-they don't even get a chance to think about medical care-just survival, again thanking the men and women who have made this possible in this once great nation, under God.
Helping out the less fortunate is an inane human trait-this task should go back to the original process of family, community, religous groups and other charitable organizations-NOT the Government.
Hand-outs are not helpful, they do not work-put a bird feeder in your back yard-it attracts more and more birds and all they do is crap on the property.
Assistance, not hand-outs are the answer. Many people on welfare growing up are not even aware there is life without welfare because it perpetuates the same behavior.

Yes I do have to say that I find it fascinating that if you look at Obama and Romney's policy records, they are BOTH basically moderate pragmatist politicians. Despite what some want to think, Obama is not a progressive or a leftist. Most true leftists (take brother Cornel West for instance) are very upset with Obama for bot making more radical changes. Sure, Obama is slightly to the left of center, and Romney is slightly to the right, but for all practical purposes they are very similar. Not much of a choice if you ask me.
But the real battle will be for the house and senate seats. There we could potentially see some actual change.Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es

We cannot sustain 4 more years of Obama. I don't say that because I'm a republican, I say that because it is the simple TRUTH. I have to admit I was little excited (though I did not vote for him) at the prospect of Obama---that was short lived. ANYONE who can be unbiased for 5 seconds will agree, he has been a terrible president. Maybe to bolster my credibility, I'll offer this: I liked Bill Clinton; didn't vote for him, but I thought he did an excellent job---though I HATED his anti-gun views.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2
