Selling @ CP vs. Directing to External Sales

Where it gets gray to me is when a noob replies to a WTB ad. Rules on that aren't clear AKAIK.

There is no rule about linking to outside sales
The senior members were self policing the FM when I got here, that hasn't changed because that's the way we roll. It may not be written anywhere, but it is a rule that we don't allow the self promotion of outside sales, Period.Political Correctness'.........defined

I'm aware of the policing, and I like that we look after each other... this is my favorite place to shop! But it would be nice if our "policies" were reflected in the official rules so that new guys aren't surprised, or pissed, when members enforce policies that don't exist in writing.2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's

I have bought and sold a couple of things through the forum. I have been around for about a year and visit the site often. I think its just common sense (and a few p.m.s) to decide if someone is on the up and up. That said, I hate Pepster now because I am perseverating on PSB stuff!

I hear what you are saying, but a little common sense goes a long way. Try to post a link to an outside sale on another forum and see how far you get, ya know! The people that try that stuff don't care if there is a written rule or not, they know full well they are trying to pull a fast one.Political Correctness'.........defined

b) If you want to enforce a rule, it should be written. I doubt you'd like to be arrested by an officer for an unwritten/unofficial rule, but by your line of thinking in this post, it would be okay. -

Every state, county, city, town, etc. across America has different rules/laws. Do you check them when you travel outside of your little part of the world or do you use a little common sense to stay out of jail. :rolleyes:Political Correctness'.........defined

A good rule of thumb is, if something does not make sense in the real world, it probably does not make sense in the virtual (online) world.
If my friends and I were gathered in a public place and another friend or trusted acquaintance stopped by and gave me a tip regarding a good deal on some merchandise of interest to me, I would appreciate it.
If my friends and I were gathered in a public place and a total stranger approached and gave me a tip on the same merchandise, I would look upon it as a suspicious intrusion.
Churches, social clubs, schools, etc. usually have bulletin boards where members can post goods and services for sale. Postings are usually subject to approval by some appointed administrator or administrative group. I think most people understand that it would not be appropriate for a stranger to post sales announcements on a community bulletin board.
My neighborhood publishes a monthly newsletter that has a "for sale" section. Residents can also submit "for sale" announcements to the homeowners association to be distributed through the neighborhood email list. How weird would it be if an automobile ad from some guy across town showed up in our newsletter or in our email inboxes?Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country! -

I have some level of common sense, but not everyone does. In addition, some things are obvious, but for those that are not, that is where written rules come in (as well as a bit of research when they are in question). I'm not the only one here who sees a flaw in how the written rules pertain to posting links to outside sales. Therefore, it doesn't appear to be as obvious as you think it is.
It sure seems that you have to debate or argue everything especially with certain members. You seem to be a man that has to feel he has some sense of control (low self esteem?) -

Is CP really in place to provide a market for makers/sellers of various power cables, etc. ? Isn't that what ebay and commercial web sites are for ? Just askin'.

The point is that crap doesn't belong in the flea market, somewhere else in another thread or forum. Like I said we have a deal of the day thread for that purpose. If I wanted to look through random want ad's I'll buy a newspaper. The FM is for established members to offer up good deals on gear they own, plain and simple.
You are really are a horses a$$.

My neighborhood newsletter is not published to provide a market for babysitting services offered by teenage girls in the neighborhood. Goods and services ads are a very small part of the newsletter. Girls offering babysitting services could put an ad in any one of the local newspapers. However, most people hiring babysitters prefer to deal with someone they know. Most teenage girls prefer to babysit for families they know.

Some concepts require a certain level of maturity to adequately grasp. Obviously, the concept of a community resource only being available to active members of the community is beyond your comprehension. It is not a matter of fearing or loathing the unknown.Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country!
