Selling @ CP vs. Directing to External Sales

The rules about selling in the CP Flea Market are pretty straight forward, and I agree with them 100%.

1. You can't sell here until you have 100 posts

2. You must take full responsibility for your listing

3. CP is not responsible for anything

Good.

Nowhere in the rules does it state that people with fewer than 100 posts cannot direct members to their own sales at external sites such as ebay or the like. I agree 100% that people should not skirt the rules by selling on this forum, in other areas than the flea market, to avoid the 100 post minimum; however, I have no problem whatsoever with people who have fewer than 100 posts directing our members to their sales at external sites. Why?:

1) Because the transaction is being conducted elsewhere, so Polk Audio is absolved of any responsibility

2) It provides our members with more opportunities to get good deals.

Some members here have inferred that it is in violation of our Flea Market rules for members with fewer than 100 posts to provide links or other direction to their sales that are occurring at other places; this inference is just that: an inference.

The intention of this post to obtain official direction from Polk Audio on the following question:

- Can forum members who have fewer than 100 posts direct other members to their sales that are occurring at external, third party sites?

I don't really care what the answer is, but if the answer is "no", then I would like to see the rules document amended so that there is no confusion, especially among new members.

That is all. Everyone have a fun, safe, Memorial Day weekend!

Well said. I've seen some people get a bit hot in the WTB section when a new member joins up, but we know the forum and its members. If someone wants to take that risk, good for them.

If Polks not taking responsibility for any transactions I don't see the point of 100 posts anyway. Heck it's not like it's any safer just because they have 100 posts. Just my opinion. I'd say change it to 0 and enter at your own risk. It's your job to do your research before buying from a seller anyway.

I like the 100 post count but wish that there was a way to hide the FM if your not a full member. You get the randoms that come to just buy something and then never bother to stick around or same with the other. I like when people will try and contribute something than just trying to off load something they no longer want.

Even if Polk doesn't take responsiblity, we still as a group are responsible for the transactions that happen. Overall we want to insure good deals are happening and not something that is just spam or fraud. Mostly why it should keep it to a decent post level to help ensure that doesn't happen.

Its like buying from anywhere. With a 0 post count your have no creditablity. Look at Audiogon, people normally can't sell very quick and there are reasons for that. Unless it local, you can check it out, and the price is right, I will always pass.

And thats why I look on craigslist for local deals.

oh and yes it goes for everything. if you are coming here to sell the selling area is the FM. If you are posting in another thread a link to your own add somewhere else its a bypass of the FM and then still to me not following the rules. I would prefer the 100 post count to be blanket for all things including the Wanted etc.

Great point Boston1450. I prefer to know that someone has been around for all of 100 posts before linking me to a sale. Shouldn't take long if you contribute to the madness here.

Its like saying the spammers that list 300 phones in a post are OK. They only linked me to a great deal?????

The rule is there, why is there a discussion. If your first post is a link or a blatant for sale I am sorry but you should be banned.

I agree with this completely. On another note, we here at CP are pretty good at letting the group know of a potential deal out there, regardless of where it's found. chances are if a newb is directing us to his stellar deal off-site, we already know about it anyway.

Most people here never see the transactions that happen behind the forum.

Rule or not I hate the fact that someone comes here and posts this killer deal and won't own it (oh it's not mine I just joined here today to post this killer deal on to my polkies), like we are stupid or something..

I really don't care but at least own it and take what comes with it..

There is no rule about linking to outside sales; hence my wanting to either put one on the books or to put on the books that it's ok; that way there's no confusion.

I believe the rule for 100 posts is a given that if you have 2 posts and then link to your own outside sale, it is forbidden since you are trying to sell something before you have 100 posts. Sort of self evident

Linking to someone else's posts can be done in the thread "deal of the day", but not in the FM as that would break rule about not selling anything that doesn't belong to you, ie for a friend, family member, co-worker, etc.

Think about it that is exactly what spammers do...So what you're saying is that we open Pandora's box? Where do you draw the line?

I agree with nooshjohn 99.9999% of the time we already know about said deal. We all watch out for each other here why would a fly by do that...they won't...

    lol. NO.

What I'm saying is that I'd like Polk Audio to explicitly state their stance on it, one way or another, in the Flea Market rules.

Right. That's why it should be up to Polk Audio to make the call. This thread isn't meant to be a venue for expressing opinions; this thread is meant to be a catalyst for Polk Audio to clearly define the law.

He's not saying that, he's simply saying its an "exception" the rules dont currently handle and is asking for clarification so that when can point people to the rules to explain why we are reporting their posts (especially if they were actually trying to be helpful, as opposed to hock their wares) it would be nice.

    To quote the rules:
You must have a total post count of 100 (contribute to the other parts of the forum) before you can sell anything in the "For Sale (FS) Classifieds" or "Garage Sale" forums.

If I was a newb, I would think it was OK to post a link to my ebay ad elsewhere on the forum... and it may be that it is OK by Polk to do that... or not; i don't know.

No, the Flea Market is for Polkies selling to Polkies, not random links all over the place. We started a thread a long time ago that was working quite well "Deal of the Day:, that's where random links to other sales should go, keep that crap out of the Flea Market area.

    Read the rules:

This is a private area for Polk owners to sell speakers and equipment to other members of the "Polk Community".

Does that sound like it means to make posts to random links? I don't think so.

You guys are making wayyyyyyyy too much of this.
