MBL had a sale on the north branch where they were selling the 101e's for 30k instead of the 64k retail last month

    Absolutely brilliant video !
Good demonstration of the "problems" with high-end gear. Wish I had those "problems".

Heard them last summer at the Capitol Audio Fest. Pretty cool... I just kept looking at them wondering where the sound was coming from! Can't say whether it was the company or the clientele that made me feel this way, but I felt a bit like an outcast in a room where the gear probably cost more than my house!

In reference to their speakers as I've not heard their gear driving anything else. They have nothing one could call a sound stage.

I think with regards to speakers, at this point in my life, I have found that point.

I heard an MBL amp just a few months ago on some B&W 802d's. I left thinking that my big Maggies and my little Sunfire would have been able to do better than 90% of what that setup did, and the Maggies are being choked to death by the confines of my little 12x14 listening area. I cannot wait to let them off their leash in a proper room.

I've heard their speakers and gear twice.

Their presentation is a little different than most speakers, the soundstage is very wide and deep, but a little diffuse. Huge dynamics and great tone too. Definitely fun speakers powered by the right(MBL) gear.

Another plus is that the sweet spot is larger than most speakers.

Yeah, it makes sense. I had a pair of bi-polar that mimics omni-directional and it's very difficult to get them to image like regular speakers. But you do get that deep and spacious sound with them.

To those who heard them, how would you describe the tonal balance? Neutral, warm, etc?

I like the guy in the video. A pure audio snob, neck scarf, jacket, wine, he's missing the moldy cheese and the merschaum pipe. Jesse, go fix him up!

I heard their gear at the Capitol Audiofest last year. I wasn't overly impressed. The gear looked good and it was very expensive. I'll stick with my Polks for now and be very happy!

At the last two NYC audio shows, there was a line out the door and about 30+ people long to hear them. They were the only room with a line at all.

That was one of the 5 or 6 times I've heard them and every time I wanted to be blown away. I mean the eye candy factor is off the charts. So much for the placebo effect or needing to do blind tests. Anyway, the room was definitely large enough and placement was certainly well thought out. I sat down, dead center a few rows back. There were two guys sitting a row in front of me and I overheard one say to other that this was the best sound he'd ever heard. I sat there shaking my head wondering WTF he was hearing that I wasn't. Just not my cup of tea I suppose.

Did you wear your neck scarf and jacket during the demo? It also helps if you're holding a glass of wine.

Yes, I was wearing an acsot and my smoking jacket, but had a bottle of root beer in hand. Do you think the root beer bottle had an adverse effect on the sound?

You should have gotten up & checked to see what cables they were running...hint, hint. Maybe that was it.

I always check out what the cables are and you're right, I'm sure the sound would have been better had they used MIT's.

Maybe it was the carbonation bubbles sizzling in the root beer?

Aaah, there's your problem. I'll send you a bottle of 92' Merlot for the next show if you pay shipping. I'll let the others decide on clothing.

I actually thought the video was a joke at first. once I figured out it was a serious ad I decided I would stick with my polks and be happy. I can't imagine the money spent on that system would actually be worth the sound, just my opinion of course.

I could be wrong, but I don't think he tried MIT's. The flavor of the month for him at one time was Transparent.

Ohhhhh, ok. I wondered why the guy was sitting to the right (his right) of dead center between the speakers. I thought maybe the speakers have a very wide sweetspot...like SDA's.
