There is no local perspective. He was wrong and so was anyone who let it continue. Perspective means it can be looked at more than one way. Sorry Child touching is wrong. There is no other perspective. He didn't do it but he might as well have when he let it continue knowing full well it was happening.

I a truly disgusted by the whole administration and faculty that knew anything about this. They are sorry examples of human beings.

I am shocked that this was swept under the rug at Penn State. Notre Dame? Now that's another story ; )

I knew there were some GA fans but didn't know how many people were actually from the south. I was just saying it almost seems like there are none, nobody replies to my football threads of course that's probably bc nobody likes Alabama haha.

Actually I've been tempted to reply many times. I like the Tide and several other SEC schools beside UGA. I actually spent some time in Tuscaloosa on a long-term job assignment when I was recently out of UGA. During that time I befriended several members of the football team. I have fond memories of my time there. I often guide on Saturdays and don't have a lot of time to reply over the weekend. Also as a Georgia fan, let's face it, my team hasn't exactly been lighting the world on fire the last few years. I figured why reply, nobodies going to take a UGA fan seriously anyways. I know a lot of fans from other SEC schools like to think of us as the "red-headed step-children" of the SEC.

Here's a good read from a local perspective.

As a life long resident and Father, I am saddened, sickened and disgusted by this. I'll go the the game Saturday to support the players but when we sing the alma mater and get to the lyric "May no act of ours bring shame". I don't know if I'll be able to hold back the tears.

I like other SEC schools too, I don't like Florida and South carolina. I hate Tennessee Auburn and LSU. GA isn't the red-headed step child, auburn is:) I like Ga a lot, even thought they've beaten Bama a good bit still like them. If Bama's season ended on a loss to Georgia it really wouldn't bother me as bad if Auburn or Tennessee did it, mostly because they don't play each other every year.

This might be a good time to close the thread. Not because of us not getting along, but because we can start another Southern football thread, and because the op didn't know and we didn't know how bad the Paterno and Penn State scenario was going to pan out. I think most of us are On the same page and not much more can be said.

Sick is as what sick does,

And sick is what was decided not to do.

Agree. Saturday my wife and I are going to the Reba concert in Atlanta, if Bama wins their game I'll or you can post a thread about it lol. this has absolutely nothing to with this thread at all whatsoever period:D You should start one after the game saturday, I always put one up when Bama wins a rivalry game and I think this game will be one just bc Mississippi st.'s defense.

Agreed gentlemen. It's time to put this one to rest. Let's pray for the victims of this terrible mess and move on. On another note, thanks for the kind words Mr. Sharpe. TN and FL are the teams that I get most worked up over. Enjoy the concert btw. EVhudsons, I actually like Coach Richt and want to see him turn things around, as much for him as for the program. I think we finally got another good DC in place, now we just need to take care of the special teams in a big way and we'll be ok. I'll be watching anxiously for the next southern football posts.

A balanced perspective. Those that are so quick to pass judgement would do well to read it. Not just scan it quickly, but read every word.

Well I read every it and I see nothing there that is going to change my mind about joe's responsibility to contact the police and lack of doing so. Everyone that had knowledge should have period, joe is no more or less wrong than many others. It makes no difference to me how many great things joe did or what a wonderful person he was, all of that does not make him less guilty of failing to do the right thing, if anything it makes it worse, because you expect more from someone you look up to and admire.

I personally believe that we all as humans have a duty to report things such as this by failing to do so then you are allowing the monster to continue to harm others it is as simple as that. It doesnt matter what reasons joe had for not doing so, I would guess the single biggest one was to protect his beloved University from scandal, it doesnt make it any less wrong.

Anyways I have had my say on this situation and I realize that no matter what I say the people that refuse to see their hero is actually as guilty as all the others are not going to change their minds.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

Keep in mind that Paterno never actually witnessed the account. He did report the account to his supervisor. He IS wrong for not reproting to authorities; i don't think anyone is arguing that. The real person who needs to look in the mirror is McQueary for not reporting an EYEWITNESS account to the authorities and for not doing anything to stop it when he was witnessing it.

They are all wrong.....period. You can argue all day the amount of guilt to be placed on each person, but at the end of the day, each person was wrong in their actions. Wait until the law suits start flying and see what that does to the tuition. Disgusting in todays day and age and at this level of society that this crap still takes place. Off with their heads.

tonyb, I agree with you. They all should burn. Again, the sad thing is that this media circus trying to burn Paterno at the stake has really overshadowed Sandusky (the sick MF'er that assaulted these children) and the victims.
I have a neighbor who was talking about this the other day. They're Penn State fans........but, the thing was that she was saying that Sandusky is mentally ill and sick. Not in the sense that it should ever excuse what happened, but just saying that he was mentally ill. I almost blew a gasket!!!!! At the end of the day I have no comprehension to believe that this **** (or anyone else who does this) didn't know what he was doing was wrong. Mentally ill or not, if this EVER happens to one of my kids, somehow and someway justice (or as close as I can get to it) will be served.

For some facts, read the grand jury report:

    http://cnninsession.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/sandusky-grand-jury-presentment1.pdf

"As the graduate student entered the locker room doors, he was surprised to find the lights and showers on. He then heard rhythmic, slapping sounds. He believe those to be the sounds of sexual activity".

Read the report for yourself, but let those sentences sink in and I'll leave it at that. Keep in mind we're reading of forced activity with a 2nd grader.

One might say, "Well, sure, that's undisputed, and it is certainly deplorable. But we have to let justice take it's course". And you would be correct in saying that.

But justice absolutely did not occur then.
It has now, though, with Sandusky's arrest and Paterno's firing.

There are several posters who have mentioned having dealings with Ivory Tower policy making decisions and procedures. My sympathies to you; from my experience,it's a distasteful, IMO, task.

Here's what EASILY could have been done:

Sandusky suspended WITH pay after the shower room incident, pending investigation.
Paterno reports it to his "superior" (which is BS as Papa Joe is King on Campus).
Paterno stays involved, makes sure that the investigation is proceeding forward.
Paterno offers his extremely considerable clout to the investigators if any is needed.
    And the truth comes out.

Sandsuky being supsended during the investigation assigns no guilt to Sandusky, merely acknowledges allegations and the seriousness that Penn State places on the matter.

    Then investigate. Really investigate.

Don't be concerned with uncovering unpleasant facts that may affect the Penn State "brand".

For those who have mentioned coverups and conspiracy theories, I would suggest staying tuned as, IMO, there is much to be seen. Much more.

Penn State did post the bond money for Sandusky, Curry, and the other dude as these incidents were looked at as work place infractions.

One final note, as to being possibly labeled a "Paterno hater", I don't follow college football in the least so Joe Paterno was less important to me than the counter person at Quick Trip. I'll take that label if need be if that's a requirement for being identified as a person who's disgusted to the max by his lack of leadership in this fiasco.

I have this to say, I love Florida State. I dont want anyone the brings disgrace to my alma mater anywhere near campus. If that means losing games or recruits, so be it. None of us knows yet what happened, but I don't think there is anyway Paterno would let this slide or not follow up. It could be that mcreary had personal issue with Sandusky and so Paterno might have In his mind assumed it was a false accusation. Personally I don't buy that but until all the facts are out we are all ignorant and just assuming things just as Paterno had.

How and why was Sandusky allowed to bring liitle boys, what pretense did he use to fool faculty and the victims families. There is a lot more here we just don't know. I just can't imagine Paterno ignoring it but if he did, .....
    He's guilty.
