I have lived in State College for 25 years and this story is ravaging the town. There are national media here now and they are going to dig really deep into this. This is just the beginning of the story. The details and possible conspiracies that are being discussed locally will eventually be discussed nationally and believe me they are not good.

Brace yourself and maybe say a prayer for the victims. One of them went to my high school

It ABSOLUTELY is just a conspiracy theory, as stated in this article. Only a small minority feels there is any validity linking the Centre County DA's disappearance to Sandusky or Paterno. Conspiracy theories are a dime a dozen.

    Are you serious?

The first accusations came in 1994. The missing DA prosecuted in 1998. Nothing stuck because of a lack of evidence and witnesses willing to talk. The case went dead. In 2002, when Paterno was involved by the coaching assistant, the DA reopened the case and cited new evidence. The case didn't get dismissed. It was investigated but again, no evidence or credible witnesses came forward. At least that's what we have been led to believe. Maybe that stuff was suppresed. But that took a couple years to get through the system an wasn't put to bed until early 2004. Then in early 2005, this DA and all his compiled evidence on the case disappears.

It's not a "story" or a conspiracy theory. They two incidents are directly related. It was in the local papers. The police reports are out there and you can even read the missing persons report at the county office. It's real.

The Gricar conspiracy is pretty much dead, general consensus here is that they are unrelated. There are many more theories about internal stuff that make this much worse than it already is. There are more people that knew and didn't say anything, we are about to find out who these people are.

How is this a witch hunt? Some scumbag child molesting coach gets caught raping a 10 year old boy in the shower and this coward that saw them, ran for the hills but then did tell Paterno. Paterno then proceeded to tell his athletic director and then went back to work, and this child molesting coach was still on the field, in the locker rooms and everything else up til last week and would still be there to this day if he hadnt been arrested.

Paterno did the absolute minimum to keep his sorry, wrinkeld **** out of jail then turned a blind eye to a sexual predator and let him roam the halls of the university for the next 10 years. He didnt have to wait for the board of trustees or president to act, he couldve called the cops himself or at least fired Sandusky and barred him from the facilities.

Paterno and everybody else that acted like they didnt see anything should burn in hell right next to this evil MF'er that raped these children.

No, he was fired for knowingly letting that monster roam the halls for over a decade, not calling the cops, not doing anything! Thats what got him fired. And yes Im happy. I dont care how many football games he won, we're talking about letting somebody that rapes little boys run around while acting like he doesnt see anything.

By 2002 Sandusky was retired. How do you fire a retired man?

Joe did not grant him full access to the University, the UNIVERSITY did. The same one that knew all about his crimes.

Joe reported this to the University, exactly what he should have done since it happened at the University and Joe did not witness anything! Joe was told what another person said he saw. The person that should have called the cops was the witness! Not Joe.

I disagree! If nobody called the cops, Joe should have.

I'm not a Paterno hater, quite the contrary. But he stood by and did nothing to bring justice. He should have called the police and let the courts settle it. My guess is that Paterno was afraid revealing this mess might scare some high school recruits. His motives were selfish.

Sandusky was still there after this. At games, on the field, in the locker room and in workout and was so up til LAST WEEK!

Paterno couldve easily barred him from anything to do with the team.

Paterno is that school and that football team. An assistant tells him he just saw Sandusky raping a 10 year old boy in the showers. Yes that guy shouldve done something and I hope he burns in hell for it but Paterno shouldve done more than just shoot an email up to the athletic director. He shouldve called the cops immediately!

This isnt a case of some gossipy rumor floating around the locker room that nobody really knows anything about. This is one assistant seeing another assistant raping a 10 year old boy. He told Paterno and Paterno passed the buck.

Dont get me wrong, all the people above Paterno deserve to get axed as well. EVERYBODY that knew about this and did NOTHING deserves to be fired at the very least! Its just too bad they cant be put in jail for it. I hope the DA can find a way to stick some charges on these **** that put protecting their schools rep above the rape of a child.

Everybody that is defending Joe, if you have kids, imagine if your kid was this 10 year old boy and these **** knew what happened and did absolutely nothing to bring Sandusky to justice or even stop it in the case of the chicken **** assistant that ran like a scared little girl when he saw a grown man raping a child. Think about it from that perspective. Your child was raped. These people knew it happened and did nothing about it AND covered it up!

The testimony of mcqueary was convincing enough to get spanier and schultz indicted for perjury. This was information that Joe knew and passed along. Legally this is ok for Joe but it is atrocious morally. schultz and spanier are both legally and morally liable.

The only saving grace for Joe would be if somehow mcqueary told him something different than what he told schultz and spanier. Joe has already admitted that he should have done more so he must have known the full extent of the locker room rape.

This was a good strong decision by the board of trustees in my opinion. The bleeding had to stop. I just hope that there isn't a riot here.

From what Joe has said, he was not told the "full" story from the Grad Assistant:
"It was obvious that the witness was distraught over what he saw, but he at no time related to me the very specific actions contained in the grand jury report," Paterno said. "Regardless, it was clear that the witness saw something inappropriate involving Mr. Sandusky. As Coach Sandusky was retired from our coaching staff at that time, I referred the matter to university administrators."

If my friend was accused of sexual assault and I knew about the accusation, at some point I would wonder whatever became of that. Joe is at fault for not questioning the outcome of the incident whether Sandusky was an active coach or not. And since when is bringing little boys into lockers the norm? There were more people involved in covering it up.

Ackward topic, but it's sad to see a legend tarnished. I feel awful for the victims, their families, and Penn State Fans.

I'm a FSU fan By the way, and never a fan of PSU other than Joe.

I agree with other posts though, how can you hear or see this and not be outraged enough to Di something or follow up on the investigation. Sick.

Ha ha! Both my parents went to Alabama then FSU grad school when I was born in Tallahassee. They wanted me to go to Bama but I joined the Navy instead and then afterwards graduated from FSU. My Dad is a professor at AUM in Montgomery where my family roots are. I was raised in South Texas but went to Lee HS in Montgomery.
Southern born and bred. I have manners, can handle a gun, don't know anyone who can't swim or fish, and I excuse myself politely from the table.

So goodnight y'all, this strange and awful topic thread has done me in for the night.

I have a trailer hitch on my Mustang 5.0 convertible. I have heard comments about that. I'm not sure what the big deal is, that thing can pull a horse trailer. I actually went to summer school at AUM when I was sixteen. I got my 5 hours of Calculus 1. I was quite annoyed that I had Auburn credits as I was a Bama fan. All that I remember is the basic idea, which is the basis for my signature along with the SDA.

Nice to see some other Southerners here although there are quite a few nice Carolina folks on the forum.

Bobby Bowden was once a Bama quarterback. He's a fantastic standup guy. I felt bad the way the boosters booted him. At least his legacy isn't tarnished like Paterno's will be. I know one thing though, Bowden would have handled it better. That coach would have been in police custody.
