Club Polk Member of the Year - 2011 Annual Vote

We started a Polkie of the Year program a few years ago with the full intention of doing this consistently year to year. Unfortunately, Polk, Russman and myself dropped the ball on this since we ended up consumed with other things and other Club Polk drama.

The first Club Polkie of the year was in fact Russman and while it doesn't come with any glitz or glam, you do get your name on a plaque that will going forward be kept at Polk Audio HQ, in the museum area of the building. Hopefully, Russman will post a pic of his plaque when he gets time.

SOOOOOO....that being said, I'd like to start this process.

I believe that when you think about the past year and the events that took place and stuff that was done for our forum, that you really emphasize contributions to our forum as a whole. This could be all kinds of things....from Karma to just general help for new or old members.

This should really be seriously thought about guys since this award is very cool IMO and should reflect an overall positive atmosphere for all of us. We want this place to be THE best place to talk about audio and not just be about glamorizing Polk Audio but talking about how this hobby affects us all collectively.

As far as a process for nominations, that's easy, simply email me your nomination and I will tally them up with PatrickC as an overseer and the final announcement will come from Al Ballard. Patrick gets everything that comes to me from a company standpoint, although he has enough to do, this is something that has to be done.

My email is as follows: mnestor @ polkaudio.com

All I need from you is a name and a brief explanation of why or maybe even point out a specific action that led you to the decision you made. It's simple.

The "winner" will be announced on November 30, 2011 so we can get the plaque made and sent prior to XMAS.

Thanks for all that you guys do and take a moment to ponder the past wonderful year and scribble an email down the road.

Feel free to post here as well with your thoughts and stuff that you remember since it will stimulate conversation and discussion....heck, it may even change someones' mind  BUT keep it civil and ensure that you EMAIL me your submission as I'm not counting anything in this thread. ENJOY!!

Regards,
Mark

Considering all the help I have received either directly or indirectly over the year it is a hard decision to decide on an individual Polkie of the year. And since it wouldn't be nice to vote for myself I guess that really limits who I should vote for.

I will throw out a name.

Heiney9, He has been around to welcome and help newbies all over the forum. Almost as much as me???? He seems to be quite knowledgeable and takes the time to explain things to people that may be less than familiar with electronics. He doesn't put out an elitist attitude and tries to steer people in a usually better direction. Besides I have had some great conversations with him via the threads here this year and look forward to many more.

"GWH - Get some names together and let us vote pole style."

I can't do that as it makes me already pick people and that's not the point....the forum should be picking the nominees, not a couple dudes in front of a keyboard. And no, I'm not doing that as it should be as anonymous as possible.

Just take a minute and send an email.

Sounds like an easy way for you old timers to get your name in Polk, on a plaque, and I'm trying to be nice!

Have more than one category, like, "who broke the most banana plugs in the last year", or "who is the most offensive" but all in fun.

I say a plaque for every year with the helpers and Major F ups here on CyberPolk.

What exactly consists of voting "pole style"? Do the finalists meet at Chubby's in Baltimore, put some nice smelling lotion on, get a Brazilian wax and brush up on the latest dance moves? :wink:Just sayin'.............If that's the case I nominate one of Keiko's pie girls as the Club Polk member of the year!!!!

Not in particular order or anything......

Jesse (F1nut)- He is like a Wal-Mart greeter. Only in Happy Birthday form! Just messing with you dude. I do love reading your replies to folks......"no"......"why bother"........ But really, you are a great source of knowledge to this forum.

Mark (mhardy)- He is like a robot or something, better than Google for vintage audio questions. If you got some speakers and you don't know what the hell they are. He is the man to ask. Every audio forum I go to he is a wealth of knowledge.

PFB (Polkfarmboy)- Is there a need to even say why? IF he wins, that pic of the f'ed up binding posts should be placed on the plaque.

For those that actually took the time to PM or email me as requested, THANKS YOUS GUYS!!. I was surprised at the actual nominees in a way. They all reflected what I DID actually ask you guys to do, which was to really think about who you thought did the most for the forum over the given year. The ppl mentioned weren't wrong, undeserved or anything, don't misread this please, but they were not folks that stood out to me personally. I wouldn't have nominated them but after retrospect and explanation by the nominatOR, I understood it all and subsequently agreed with the decision.

Look....THAT's what I want guys...just think about who helped you this year, who helped others this year, who had the best rib on another member...WHATEVER! It doesn't matter overall....it's just who you think adds the most personality and contributes the most to us all collectively. Simple enough?

While I would love for my name t be on this plaque, I'm 100% exempt from this idea from start to finish of the project. I could say that doing all this is reward enough but that would be a crock of ****....and yes, I broke the language rules on that one since it's TOTALLY fitting to the context of all this.

Seriously guys, and gals, I do find this to be another important element of our forum. No, the thread wasn't shut down due to humor but I had more people posting funny things and not following up to me offline with the actual subject issue. That's why I yanked it.

If you are all on board with doing this, by all means, contribute to the thread in some way since it keeps it fresh and on top but take a moment and email or PM me your nomination.

This means a lot to Polk and to me personally since I'm never going to be on it, so I have to live vicariously thru you guys, ha ha. We have one of the best internet forums out there, so let's give a small segment of our time back to it always, but at the very least for this....OK?

    Regards,
    Mark

I PM'd Mark again to add TFLF. I don't have SDA's, so his rings were no benefit to me. But I know there are many here that he helped. So that's why I added him. Perhaps I can snag some for my Monitor 10's someday though.

    Submitted my nomination via PM.

As others have mentioned, it's tough because there's a LOT of you folks who contribute a lot in either time/material/advice to a lot of people. Probably quite a bit of effort goes on behind the scenes that we're unaware of.

Personally, I find this a very difficult task. There are a number of people who have been helpful, welcoming, informative, supportive, and so on. Will have to give it more thought.

It goes without saying that many of the old timers (and many are younger than I, so that 'old' is not literal) are a wealth of information and history. But a lot of the newer guys have also busied themselves and contributed much in the last year.....hmmmmm.

This is hard! Will e-mail later.

There's already one clear leader that I didn't expect so keep the votes coming but if it tips past a certain point, it's pretty obvious who will win now. Who knows, things change but I may end the voting early based on this.

Thanks for taking the time to do this guys.
