I have to ask what in the heck was done to that board for it to do that to an inductor? I did not even know you could fry an inductor... lol

Anything becomes a fuse if you put too much current through it. However, it looks like there was hot glue or some other crap on the inductor. That is what might be the burnt black gunk.

Even worse, if you put in a polarized electrolytic cap backwards...

Those little inductors are wrapped in black tape, they come that way. I am not sure how ben could or would do that by just upgrading them with caps and resistors.. he would have had to try and use them would he have not??

I know he moved mine (inductors) on my 2B's back in 2008 to make room for the larger Sonicaps. Luckily they were still properly in-circuit and not over-glued. I did have to solder in a jumper on the right channel board that he forgot when he removed the polyswitch.

Those inductors come from the factory covered in glue, so that's not the problem. I could see the use of non-common ground amps without the AI-1 causing that issue tho.

Regardless, there's no excuse for the multitude of issues folks here have had dealing with Ben. Some of us "old timers" tried to warn folks about him, but many wouldn't listen. Hopefully, the next time you will.

Personally, I think enough is enough. It's time to show him the door.

He's already keeping their money and items. You don't reward someone like that by allowing them to stick around and screw over someone else. The reality is that he should have been booted long ago. We wouldn't have half the issues we do now.

I've had a few crossed words and unpleasant conversations with Ben, but didn't see this on the table from our interactions. Sorry to hear about the misfortune of a few of you folks, and I'd be more than happy to add my name to the list for repairing crossovers or building cables no charge for those who were burned.

It's not so much that he has done this before as it is that he has been teetering on mental, physical and financial breakdown and problems for years. Pretty much since he signed up here. It was a matter of time before one or more of these issues finally caused the collapse and complete failure to follow through. Plus, his marginal electronics work. It all started with his homebrew cables, which I think were decently made and went downhill from there.

The dude has had nothing but troubles in his life, some uncontrollable, but most self inflicted. This was bound to have happened eventually, but many didn't see the writing on the wall, hence the warnings from long time members, etc.

No one wins in this situation, no one.
