If any of you are around Austin, try the 512 Brewery. There's a bar up in Denton, TX that showcases a different brewery each Tuesday for pint-night, and they did 512 a couple weeks back. I had their Wit, Ale, and Pecan Porter, and LOVED the Ale and Porter. The Wit wasn't as good IMO. Either way, give 'em a shot!

I try to avoid buying the same beer in a month stretch. There is so much out there that it is easy to try something new every week.
I was on a Boddingtons kick for about a 2 month stretch a year or so ago. The beer is ultra light the head is like no other. Sam Adams says "The head is so thick you could float a bottle cap on it" Boddingtons should read "A head so thick you could float a sam adams on it".

Harpoon's Octoberfest is out so i had to try this years offering.....As i type....

Had a Cape Cod Red last night at a bar out in Provincetown. Also had a Racer 5 yesterday at some Bar in Truro/P-town line. I'm on vaca so let me have my fun. The Mrs has never been to P-town so she's getting some culture shock....For those of you that no nothing of Provincetown, MA...look it up

There is a sixer of Victory Hopdevil Ale in the fridge that i will try later on tonight. I pretty sure its a PA microbrew but i may be wrong.

    Cheers!

    Dave

You use ginger beer in a Moscow Mule.

The mule was born in Manhattan but "stalled" on the West Coast for the duration. The birthplace of "Little Moscow" was in New York's Chatham Hotel. That was back in 1941 when the first carload of Jack Morgan's **** 'n' Bull ginger beer was railing over the plains to give New Yorkers a happy surprise... Three friends were in the Chatham bar, one John A. Morgan, known as Jack, president of **** 'n' Bull Products and owner of the Hollywood **** 'n' Bull Restaurant; one was John G. Martin, president of G.F. Heublein Brothers Inc. of Hartford, Conn., and the third was Rudolph Kunett, president of the Pierre Smirnoff, Heublein's vodka division. As Jack Morgan tells it, "We three were quaffing a slug, nibbling an hors d'oeuvre and shoving toward inventive genius". Martin and Kunett had their minds on their vodka and wondered what would happen if a two-ounce shot joined with Morgan's ginger beer and the squeeze of a lime. Ice was ordered, limes procured, mugs ushered in and the concoction put together. Cups were raised, the men counted five and down went the first taste. It was good. It lifted the spirit to adventure. Four or five later the mixture was christened the Moscow Mule...

If you enjoy Belgian style beers, I highly recommend trying the Ommegang line up.
I had the Three Philosophers Quadrupel at a pub in Lititz the other weekend. Like drinking candy and I have a helluva sweet tooth.

nadams, I seek out brewpubs on my excursions so when my wife and I return from the shopping outlets near Tannersville later this fall I'll swing by and check out Berwick brewery.

I'm on my yearly octoberfest kick right now. Local place has an endless number of them it seems. One beer I had not too long back that I really loved was a beer from Lagunitas called Little Sumpin' Wild Ale. The sell Little Sumpin' Wild and Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale, but the Wild is better IMO. They use wild yeast to ferment it and it's an amazingly smooth, full flavored beer. And it's around 9% alcohol so it'll get you happy real quick!

Thats basically the kick I'm on. For some reason or another this coming fall , Octoberfest and Thanksgiving seem way more important then normal.

Victory Brewing is also in your backyard if you live in PA.

If you really want to experiment with beer, you should look into home brewing. Easy to get into with extract kits and you can be up and running your first batch for under $200...

    http://www.midwestsupplies.com/everything-a-carboy-complete-brewing-package-equipment-kit-2.html

    It's worth looking into!

A buddy of mine does that. He uses MR.BEER and he has made a few very fine IPA's and a few Ales. I'm really impressed with make your own beer. I didn't expect it to taste that good.
He's a huge IPA guy which I'm ok with them but some tend to get to Hoppy.

I was lucky enough to stop by my local shop just a few minutes ago and pick up 3 bottles of Pliny the Elder, the better of the two IMO. But, I also picked up 3 bottles of Double Jack, by Firestone Brewing. While I am no fan of their entire line they got this one right and by all accounts it's better than Pliny and Blind Pig.

Yuengling is finally making its way into Ohio, so it can once again it can be my everyday (or so) beer! Right now is Octoberfest time but I haven't found anything that has jumped out at me yet this year but we are entering the best time of the year for real beer. Bring on football, the snow and plenty of Guinness and New Castle.

I bought some of the Sumpin' Wild as well and really liked it. Have you ever tried the Hop Stoopid (real name) from Lagunitas ? It's probably my favorite IPA and comes in a 22 oz bottle. Just noticed your from Dayton too. Where's the local place? Belmont party supply maybe? Favorite pub/tavern in Dayton is South Park which has an amazing ever changing selection of craft beers. Love that place !

    Ok ,
so I'm German and drinking beer is a part of my makeup. Great Grand pop did it , Grand pop did it , uncle loves it , I love it so on and so on.

Being German wheres the love for eine pilsner, oder einen lager, oder velicht enien hefe weizen, oder einen kristal weizen? I like a good Guinness or harp a black and tan with those combined makes a good one. I lived in the land of Brats and bier for quite a while and I liked how each town had its own brew or two or three I lived in Heilbronn the local brew there was Kluss being close to stuttgart it was stuttgarter Hofbrau. I know that most of the mass produced German beers make it here state side but beleive you me Becks, St Pauli Girls, or Lowenbraus are some of the least popular over there because of thier mass production status a good massed produced german bier available here state side that is enjoyed as well over there is Warsteiner and Bitburger bitte ein Bit. I highly recomend one of those or a spaten hefe weizen all available here. Enjoy whatever it is your sipping on everyone.

If you're in State College you have a few good places to hit up...

Zeno's bar below the Allen Grill is awesome, small, but awesome.

Yes, Otto's is in their new location. Recently drained a sixtel of DD IPA.

That's where I buy my beer. I'll probably get a sixtel of Red Mo for homecoming.

Another place is Elk Creek Cafe in Millhiem that is worth the trip. They also have a loyal following.

Last but not least is The Gamble Mill in Bellefonte. They opened a brewpub last February. The brewmaster recently worked for Ithaca Brewing and Dogfishhead before that.
