I think this is interesting. I think its amazing people are trying it, and are finding positive results. When it dies, it'll die. Just like every other thread.

Personally I think Troy's just feeling left out since he can't figure out how to mount his 601's on top of his CA's...

It is a given you increase some soundstage with adding another speaker on top of another. You could probably get some spooky Halloween effects if you lay them on the ground also. This exercise proves nothing, but that adding more cabinet volume and driver surface area, that the "sound" "becomes" "better", I just don't get what the objective is.
Mark,
When you split a signal, it is like adding two subwoofers. When you Y-Split a subwoofer signal, each sub will work less than before, sound cleaner, play louder, hit harder. At the same time however it will work alot less than before. It's like having a nailgun instead of a hammer. Although still a pain its 500 times easier.
Same thing with my wire setup. I am using one RCA cable, connected to a y-splitter. The y splitter runs to the right inputs on 2 amps. Thus splitting the signal. Then two runs of speaker wire, one to the RT35i, and one to the RTi70, the signal is split between the two. Each playing the same exact signal, but yet not the same. It sounds lighter between speakers, but together has around the same volume.
However, listening to dream theater a while ago at my mom's house. I can tell you this, the right side is working alot less to re-create the same volume as the left. Which equals to better sound. When a speaker strains, it sounds bad. It's like when you are moving furniture, if it weighs alot, its harder to move - yet you will still get it done eventually in the end.
The highs sound cleaner, richer, more detailed. When you mix the tri lam with the silk they compensate where each other fails. The woofers are the same thing. The RTi70 woofers have alot of slam, with a more outward soundstage that isn't as center focused. Where as the RT35i is more open, and has a more center soundstage and less outward. Do you see the compensation?
Yes, the soundstage is helped alot with the setup. Basically because it is exstended another foot upward and puts the vocals on your head just about.
I will say this, whether you want to try it or not. For whatever reasons -- One day, when your home alone. Have absolutely nothing in the world to do. Wire it similar to mine if possible and tell me what you hear. I hope you hear what I hear, but if you don't. Thats fine.
Sean mixed the SDA and LSi together in the same room. Not stacked, but basically splitting the signal between the main ouputs. If I am not mistaken, and the results he said were amazing. The LSi9 has a more center soundstage, the SDA is more outward. Compensation, for sure. Etc, stuff like that. It is audible. From what I have found. It IS worth trying, vanity, w/e - it's worth it.
Glad to see others have tried it, and one guy has liked it so much that he is keeping it like that. Which is really cool.
Enjoy, will keep you posted when I get my other tweeter.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Trey - Thanks, I know a little bit about how to wire things and the function of Y splitter already. I agree with the theory, and the actual expansion of the soundstage is obviously heard....but it is still a ridiculous, long term idea. I will never experiment this effect ever, ever....ever. Good luck in your placement party.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers?
