Dave - How does Audi/VW/Porsche rank on your disgruntlement list of repairs?

All three are solidly built/designed with pride. Just tap on the metal anywhere and you can feel/hear the differance.
The only slight exception would probably be the VW Passat. I just worked on one that took a hit directly on the (rear) right rail, no outside body damage to the Qtrs but the trunk was buckled and replaced. I had to replace the rear panel (steel) and trunk floor/spair tire well (made of plastic held in with window urethane). the plastic floor/ spare tire well is what they use to space/reinforce the frame rails I dont think that is the greatest idea. The car did take a shot but held together pretty good overall. The rail was in 1.5in and took 6500lb (and still fought me) to pull it out and get the wheel well unbuckled (a result of the rail being shoved) the sunroof was broken too a result of the hit and the radio also was shook causing the battery drain. We had to send it to the dealer to have dash codes removed and they knew the radio was the problem of the battery drain common in them from what they said.
Overall minor issue with the VW Passat but would rank it as a safe reliable car. The other 2 Audi and Porsche, yea, very good and very safe but if they require work that someone can't do themselves (out of warrenty) it can be costly but have not came across anyone who had any bad experiance with repairs mostly because the people that own them usally take better care of them.
Yours looks sweet and I'm sure you will enjoy it, did you recieve it yet?. I'm sure you will be able to notice how solid she is as soon as you get her out and cruise.

    TOE - Audi Q7.

Thanks Dave!! Yeah we have both new ones now. Our experience has been very positive with Audi so until something demoralizing happens, we're fans. I have always liked the THUNK that German cars make when closing the doors....a far cry from Subaru, for example.

We have a rule at my house - we won't buy cars that cost more than our first house -- $42k. So far, so good.

No idea... but we did really enjoy the Chevy Traverse I rented last month (and put 1500 miles on in a bit less than a week). It was humongous relative to what my wife and I normally drive... but not Suburban-humongous, y'know?

I like the Volvo C90. Just please do not buy a Ford Expedition.

The Chevy is a pretty nice vehicle as well. They're the new standard issue for the Verizon Wireless techs in my area....just missed out on mine.

Also FYI. Anyone getting a new vehicle or one that is still under warrenty. Befirend the service Mgr.. Take him out for a beer, lunch, dinner whatever. I have a friend that is a service Mgr. and I had a real big problem with my 2000Dodge 1ton diesel 4x4 that I use for my side concrete/snow plow business. I blew the transmission bad, I caused it I know I did by hossing it from forward to reverse hard while plowing snow hard. I had to have it towed to his dealership. He told me that the trans. had to be replaced, it could not be fixed, I had sheered the shift sending it through the case . The new trans was over $3K and I just shat my pants. The truck was out of warrenty and I had no choice but to go wipe myself and get ready to pay the bill. He called me a week later and when I went in he told me that the bill was $100. to my relief and amazement I asked, how? He explained to me that he got it taken care of under warrenty and when I said it wasn't under warrenty he said that the Manuf.'s give the service Mgr.'s the power to extend the warrenty past the experation date at their descreation and that is what he did. All that is required on his side is a call to the Manuf. and he explaines the problem and recommends that the repair be placed under that rule and they honor it. So everyone, get to know the service Mgr. it could save the day and your wallet.

I really like the new GMC trucks. They look a lot more like they used to back in the 80's which is a good thing in my opinion. I always liked the looks of those.

The Chevy Silverado's look a lot like them but the Sierra's look meaner to me.

I think the best looking truck on the road right now is the Ford Super Duty. Im a big Dodge Ram fan but the Super Duty finally took over the top spot in looks as far as Im concerned.

I'll have to take a look at the audi q7 and the volvo c90. The GM's won't cut it as the third row is half sized. Meaning not full leg length. I have three kids and listening to them complain about the seat being to close to the floor, lol gets old after awhile.

Nah, i know the GMC versions are nicer and such but i honestly have never really taken to the line. I prefer Chevy and have owned many. Not sure why GMC just doesn't get my rocks off lol. Plus i forgot to mention this won't be my ride. This is for the little lady. At the moment she wants a Honda Pilot....i want her to get something with a bit more power for on the weekends but we shall see.

I used to work in quality at GM. I'm not going to write a book as I've posted on this at length in the past but here's a couple anecdotes.

Consumer Reports gave Toyota a free ride for years. We had a new vehicle come out of a GM plant that at the time was rated the top quality (by JDP I think) plant in North America. Consumer Reports would not recommend the vehicle because they "had not tested it." Meanwhile a new Toyota vehicle came out, also untested by Consumer Reports, that was a recommended buy. The reason? Toyota's reputation with them.

The Hummer was one of the worse quality vehicles at one time per JDP in GM's lineup. Why do you think? Squeaks and rattles? Not reliable? Engine fails? Nope, none of those - gas mileage took the Hummer down. The big hulking thing got terrible gas mileage. Do ya think??

There are various dealer surveys that show that your experience is likely to be the worst at Toyota and Honda, among other imports. After years of the aforementioned "free ride" why would the dealers care about the customer? Meanwhile the domestic dealers were wising up and taking care of the customer.

Lastly, I worked closely with the "recall" people at GM. A question repeatedly brought up was "How does Toyota do it? Hardly ANY recalls?" Just statistically speaking it did not seem possible their recall rate was so low with respect to the other makers. Well I guess that mystery got solved the past couple years when it came out they had repeatedly covered up problems or otherwise not stepped up to them.

Just turned in a Cad CTS with over 100,000 miles and not a single warranty visit. Chillin' in a Buick LaCrosse right now and can tell you it's not your daddy's Buick!
