I was thinking the same thing. There are some ad execs that are really happy about this thread. I prefer to make companies work, and to try new things. There is no loyalty when it comes to major corporations.Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es

I used to like Coke more, but ever sinve Coke no longer tastes like Coke (about 12 to 15 years now) and especially since Pepsi is made with actual sugar cane and the "throwback" tastes pretty much like older Pepsi did, I buy that now. If Coke actually tasted like Coke still (i.e.not watered down, increased HFC) I definately prefer Coke to Pepsi.
I guess in that case and many others I don't have brand loyalty, I am loyal to the best made product using quality parts and/or ingredients which performs the best to me.

yep, I forgot Pearl drums, Paul Newman's salad dressings, and the Cokes in most third world countries are made from real sugar because sugar is cheap everywhere but the USA where corn is promoted over sugar to help local farmers. The best Coke I ever had was in the Phillipines. It was so great to wake up with a new lady friend and a hangover, slip a kid some pesos to return with a Coke to die for, hangover gone, along with the lady friend for another few pesos.

Not true John. I don't know if you remember the way Coke tasted even 15 years ago (let alone 50, although I don't remember 50 either as I wasn't alive). There was a bite to it. I describe it as almost a gingery bite (flavor) to it. Coke (including the Mexican) no longer has that. Although, Mexican does have real sugar (in most cases). But, I was buying a Mexican made one a few weeks ago that was a medium height 16 ounce glass bottle with a plastic screw on cap????? Anyway, I made sure to look at the ingredients and sure enough it said (sugar and/or high fructose corn syrup) and which do you think they use? Of course if it says either/or they'll use the cheaper one which is HFCS. Needless to say, I didn't buy that one.
I also saw a tall "old style" 16 ounce Sprite glass bottle made in Mexico, looked at the ingredients and bought it. This was a sprite that tasted almost exactly like the older 80's and earlier style Sprite. It tasted very good!! Of course, they only had one and have been back for another several times but they have not been in stock again.:frown:

I know the ones you are talking about. I have bought them from some Mexican stores (which is where that Sprite and even the 16 ounce plastic cap Coke came from). It's just doesn't taste the same to me though.

I got a Mexican Coke from my local Target store a couple of months ago and I was hoping for that "bite"....but nothing. Glass bottle and metal cap don't matter if it ain't got that "bite". I remember when I was a kid in Hong Kong in the early 70s, there was something special about Coke....but now, it seems to be gone forever. Memories  -

Heck I could go on for a while. There are so many brands I'm loyal to. Some I grew up with some Grew on me.
I thought you were gonna buck that loyalty trend an get that Trek 29er, come on mantis because of your thread on that topic thats all I think about is a Trek 29er Mamba. I will have to wait until 2012 for my Mamba as that model has Shimmano Components and not Sram.Home Theater

There are really too many to list, but I can think of two that may lose my brand loyalty. Converse, who just discontinued the shoes I've worn for over ten years, and really don't offer white Hi-Tops anymore. Luckily I picked up 8 pair on closeout. And Levi's, that just discontinued their "regular fit" 505's and 550's. The new one's I got (straight cut?) look like bell bottoms in comparison. I already went through the 70' once, ain't doing it again.

The times today(economy, job market, gas prices, etc...) feels just like the 70's all over again. hell, even the music sucks. The Gear... Well I was a kid in the 70's, so I didn't really pay much attention to the economy, job market, or gas prices. I don't remember nearly as many poor families as now though.

Unless I have a product that has proven to be reliable, well made, and the company has excellent customer service, I stopped having brand name loyalty years ago.
Most times all it means is that you are paying more money simply for the name on the label, not that their product is any better.
Food, medicine, and clothes get bought by whoever has it on sale.
