Dont get me wrong - I "like" tubes...

But (IMO) Tube preamp, amps, cdps, buffers, dacs, all that in the same system is just crazy...

I like a little bit of tubes...
    - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Hey to each his own. But for me the more tubes the better that is if they are good tubes.

I have gone almost all digital at this point. I was looking for a car stereo for the new ride and all I was interested in is an input for the iPod or so something. I realized that I don't know where my CDs are ( I am moving) and it doesn't bother me at all. I know I have my hard drive and I am good.

Apples and oranges. That is a poor analogy. Comparing vinyl to wax cylinders is a more apt analogy.

With CDs and downloads we are comparing digital files to digital files.

I don't even have a dedicated CD player. Everything goes to FLAC (including HD CDs and dvd audio). But I'm still buying CDs left and right. Hmm.

Last time I used my CD player was March 26, 2011 when Jay (agfrost) popped in. The SB Touch with external DAC gets lots of use, vinyl some use.

The only CD player I use is in my cars, and even that is rarely.

The house runs Flac or Lossless, and Vinyl.

I can't tell the difference between my CDP or my Computer/Ipod.

I do have an i-pod inter wired for both avr and 2-chl rigs and use mostly for continous greatest hits.I do appriciate the unlimited time of music. And finally have streaming computer i-net tunes , I'm just not that advanced yet w/ all the other gear your talking about.I really need instruction of all the conversion technics all you guys are talking about.

I guess I am like the unabomber or something because I only play records. My 160gb ipod is completely empty and i dont feel like stocking it. I havent had a cd player in two years, but i have bought 3 or 4 cds in that time. That is sorta pointless, so I guess i need a cd player.

Not for several weeks at least. Sold both my sacd players and went all digital. I have listened to albums in the last month that I haven't heard in years because I can simply pull out my phone, pull up the squeezebox app, and choose from hundreds of albums in an instant. Especially with young kids in the house, I will get to enjoy a lot more music that way. And the sq difference is minimal (at least in my modest rig). If I had an external dac I don't see how there would be any difference.

I have a pretty extensive collection of Cassette tapes from the 80s or so. And a decent AIWA 3 head player I had repaired and refurbished a year ago for that reason. Still, I doubt that I load it up and take it through its paces more than once a month. Which is even less than I spin the little Vinyl that I own....mostly from my youth?

But then again I don't own a 2K+ TT and a 1K Cartridge. But is that really my problem? When I used to listen to Classical Stations in NYC (and you'd assume that they had all top notch equipment--the 'background' noise still drove me 'crazy'--don't care what the vinyl aficionados say--you can't 'eliminate' that. You can 'reduce' it but that's about it).

I spin Vinyl, mostly out of nostalgia, these days. But, as I said, my system is lower end there.

Keiko karma'd me a nice Yamaha cassette deck a while ago that needed a minor repair so I sold the Nakamichi deck I'd owned for years.

I have cassettes with music from the rock band I used to play out with in the '70's and right now a working deck is the only way I can reproduce that music.

The sound quality isn't bad, and is by no means up to today's standards, but I still enjoy reliving those moments.

Ipod sounds like something from outer space.
Download, upload, burn, rip, stream all give old guy very pretty good headhurt.

Had a cd stuck in my pc for weeks and just as I was typing this it ejected itself.

Although I listen to mp3 at work, and sometimes in the bedroom, when I want to really listening to music, I prefer to load the CD tray. I?m a bit old school for that.
