Shipping for me would add about $300, if it ends up being the better option than so be it. The crossovers would be about $125, so not a huge difference. The main factor would be risk of damage during shipping and down time. Maybe Dan can get you a crossover quicker so the part cost can be determined first?

I have a parts list already

I am guessing parts will cost 200-600 depending on the quality you go with

I would assume the space constraints might limit which caps you can fit and use. Are the more expensive caps the larger or smaller of the options? I am beginning to see why that one guy used external crossovers. I have an excellent granite guy, maybe that is the option to go with. lol

There's only three caps for the tweeters and mids so if one or two of the caps can get attached to the inner side walls it'll work just fine, there's plenty of room.

We can keep it internal and make it awesome! Maybe even keep it on the board

    For the ST owners

With ESA caps, Mills resistors -- the total comes to 388 with EVERYTHING + return shipping.

    Thanks

I took mine apart last night and discovered inner dampening material like acoustic block. Pretty cool. Seems like the one Yellow cap is about as big as it can be as far as tall is concerned.

I have crossovers coming from Def Tech , I might even attempt this myself. I'll let you guys know when they come in.

I am going to bypass the large cap with a higher quality cap to keep space to a minimum

LOOKs like its a race between me and Dan now. I love what these speakers can do with such little power, if these add some smooth softness on top of It this could be something special with an Inova.

    Spammers suck

Here they are - reading for shipping. I just gotta find a box and some padding to put around the frame. I couldnt think of anyway to securely ship all three in a box so I made something to make it work!

    Ohhh yeah!

Does it matter on these foil inductors which lead goes to the center and which to the outside? Trey did you have any issue with soldering onto these and making a good connection? I notice that one set of your inductors were not tinned. Did you have to strip or burn off the coating, or were the ends left bare copper?

The smaller inductors were not tinned from the factory...

With the Weller Digital Soldering Iron - this was a piece of cake... took just a few minutes to solder all the inductors up and the connection is super strong!

    Thanks guys!

I thought about just getting some 1/8" plywood and putting it over the outside for shipping... I will think about it!

No. And with a hot iron, it's easy to make a good connection.

Yep - the right tools makes the job easy!

    This was a fun project..

I wish we could have made them externally and done some PTP action and spaced them and all that good stuff - but this will do just fine! :)

Wouldnt you know it - after 10 years of shipping stuff... the thing I CRATE - put 1.5" foam padding all around, in a box - the whole nine yards get damaged?

    Who woulda thunk it..

So, I've had some time to listen to the BP7000SC's with the upgraded crossovers and my feelings are mixed. It didn't work miracles, but it did seem to add more resolution and smoothness to the sound. They still have what I would call flaws as before, such as lack in lower midrange, but the best part is that when audyssey is enable, it sounds so much better then before and helps lift the lower midrange. Without the mods audyssey seemed to make the sound seem a little more edgy, harsh, and processed.

So I'm not sure where that leaves me, I really hate having to resort to using processing to fix what I would call speaker flaws. I think if I liked how the speakers sounded before then this mod would have been more beneficial, but none the less it was an improvement.

I haven't had time to compare my modded CLR3000 against the non-modded one, but hope to do so in the upcoming week or two. This is a speaker I liked a lot so it will be interesting how the modded one compares against the none modded one :)

Sounds like you might not like where the subs are crossed with the midbasses -- maybe too high?

Despite what def tech states, I don't think the subs blend very well with the mids. The issues is around the 150hz+ range which is out of subwoofer range.

I feel def tech implemented the blending better with the BP7002's. Need to copy that crossover design :)

    Trey,

I actually have a few pictures of a BP7002 crossover. If I sent it to you do you think you could figure out the difference is in the midbass crossovers between a BP7000 and a BP7002?

Do you have pictures of the traces on the underside as well? Along with values?

If so we can definitely give it a shot
