Well, around this time of year, yes.
Actually, Mrs. H is OK with no roses today - she's more frugal even than I.

I did send her roses once, on V-Day 1989 when I had just relocated to Sunnyvale, CA, and she and two kids were still back in B-more. Seemed like the right thing to do :-P

We could talk about the whole relationship-stress-thing that V-Day catalyzes, too...

oh, our tradition for many years is not to exchange gifts. Susan does like cards, so I almost always make her one for this particular holiday.

Other times of the year, though... roses are nice.
I like giving flowers to women...

Actually, I felt lucky just buying a card. The young guy in front of me in the store line had a basket filled to the brim with roses, teddy bears, candy, wrapping paper, etc. The great thing about being married is that I'm going to get some without spending more than 5 bucks.

The local grocery stores can do a dozen for $15-18.
Cheap insurance, as far as I'm concerned. Still, other
weeks of the year I can get then for $12.

    So are diamonds.

Agreed. Diamonds are a ripoff. They aren't nearly as rare as they'd like you to believe, and you can buy a CZ stone that looks better than a real diamond at a fraction of the price. Of course, you come off looking like a cheap skate. But just think of all the cool audio toys you can buy with the money you saved! (Maybe that's why I'm still single, huh?)

Thanksgiving is by far the best holiday. No pressure to find "the perfect gift". It's all about eating, drinking, enjoying the company of others, and taking naps.

Uhhhhhh....I dunno 'bout dat. Wives can afford to let you get off cheap for VD (no pun intended...honest.) because they get to gouge you so many other times of the year.

Seems to me "getting some" just before and after marriage can cost considerably more than five bucks.

    Engagement ring.
    Wedding.
    Honeymoon.
    Anniversary gifts.
    Kids.
    Kids college fund.
The house that's just a bit too expensive for your budget.
The girlfriend on the side to take up the slack.
    Etc.
    Etc.
    Etc.

Most guys p***y bill goes up astronomically after marriage, they just don't realize it because it is cloaked in the disguise of "other expenses". Look at how much money poor Tiger Woods would have saved if he had engaged in the same promiscuous behavior, yet while single.

My wife loves a good card and a nice flower arrangement of some sorts. Roses are very nice and make a statement.

I don't think they are a rip off when I see my wife smile. if thats what it cost to make that happen once a year I'll suck it up and do it.

Or you can be slick like me and buy Chocolate Roses . Kill 2 birds with one stone .

Frugal wife too. I got her flowers a few times several years ago but now she doesn't want it. Dinner is all that she cares about. She also likes a card. I had the kids make cards for her, and she really liked that. We did get eachother a small gift. I got her a candle set from Walmart for $10. She loved it since she loves candles. She got me some chocolates which I love. She likes chocolates too but doesn't want any since she is watching her figure.

It's all about pleasing your loved one. Some women do prefer flowers and that's the game you have to play even though they are a rip-off. Finding one that knows better is the key.

We went to Longhorn Steakhouse at lunch today. Busy, but no wait. I couldn't imagine trying to get in during evening hours. We decided that in the future we should have a nice lunch together every valentines day.

I am so glad I took the day off.:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::rolleyes:
