52..started in 1976 with installing a Craig PowerPlay 8-track mounted between the buckets in my Camaro and never looked back. Fm radio was an add on converter to tmy pushbutton radio that gave new meaning to hi-fidelity via Jenson 6x9 co-ax speakers in the rear deck.

After that it was on to Pioneer and Sansui Recievers with real wood end panels and brushed aluminum faceplates. I probably bought/sold/traded an audio piece at a clip of once a month and I still have this dreaded sickness...

    49. I've been into audio since I was knee high to a grasshopper. I grew up listening to my parents Fleetwood console tube stereo with Garrard record player and FM Stereo. It was one of the most deluxe tube consoles you could buy and I took it with me when I left home at 19. Then I really got into car audio and was the first person I knew to have a subwoofer in a car (rockford fosgate). The IROC still has a thundering Alpine system but my taste in sound quality has matured considerably in the last 10 years.

44 and my Dad and I put together my first real stereo in about 1977. I had a few boom boxes and a hand me down stereo before that. I worked in audio stores for awhile in my early years 18-25.

I have always been into music and this hobby as far back as I can remember. Music has always been and continues to be a large part of my life. I'll echo what ScompRacer says as our group (RAS) has a great time when we meet. It's mostly social anymore as the days of gear shoot-outs has passed although we have a mini-monitor shoot-out coming up. The hobby is best enjoyed with friends that have similar interests and getting together to shoot the breeze (can't say the other word as it will swiftly be censored).

    Good times for sure.

I'm 35 now and have always loved music (though it took me a bit longer to get into hi-fi). I bought my first CD in 1987 and played it through a cheap GE integrated stereo from K-Mart. When I got a bit older and landed my firt real job (around 1994) I stopped in at our local audio store (Columbia Audio/Video) and ended up walking out with the following items (all from their used equipment showroom):

    Nakamichi MB-2s CD player
    ADCOM GFA-535 Amp
    ADCOM GFP-555 II Preamp
    Phasetech Speakers

I think I spent just under $1K for everything (which was WAY more than I'd ever spent on audio). Even since then I've been hooked and I've bought/traded/sold equipment ever since.

I'm 39. I originally got into car audio back in 1986 or 87. Was into that hard core for a while (sound offs, etc). That faded out when I went to college. I always had decent home stereo systems, but they were the typical all in one type of gear. I got my first AVR in 1996 but wasn't really serious about it. Just wanted to watch TV through the stereo! Really got into audio/home theater in 2002 when I bought my first house.

Started when I was 16. Really got into music when I first got married at 27 and bought my first real stereo and advent legacy II speakers. The bug caught me again a couple of years ago.

I'm 51. Built my first dynaco when I ws 14 (PAT4 and Stereo 80). Upgraded to my first set of Polk speakers (7Bs) in 1979 that I still own. Really returned to the hobby when I decided to upgrade the crossoveres in the Monitor 7s and found this site. Since then it has been an upgrade here, a few tubes there, and a visit to GG's vinyl listings often.

I'm 46 and been into music/audio gear ever since I can remember. Made a career (well... a living I should say) out of recording and live sound engineering in my formative years. When my little girls grew into teenagers, I got out of the "business" and got a real job. Just got back into the hobby about 3 years ago and since joining here, have fallen down the rabbit hole. Thanks a LOT you guys!
