I am 47. I've been into the hobby since I listened to my brother's 45 rpm record of Chuck Berry's Johnny B. Goode. This was on a record player I had received for Christmas that year (1970). Naturally over time I grew disatisfied with the sound of the player and wanted a better one. Upgrading the sound system has always happened in one form or another since that time. In case you're interested I still have the 45, its on Chess records. Cheers.

I'm 49. I've been keenly interested in music since sometime before I was 10. My older brother turned me on to "Let it Be" and some Rolling Stones, and that was it. He got into better gear before I did. I bought my first real stereo at 13 (Pioneer receiver, Garrard turntable, Utah speakers). I've gone through phases of upgrade leaps over time. I even sold gear at The Wiz (very mid-fi) for a brief while. Now going through several levels of upgrades in the 2+ years since I joined CP.

My "Ex" wife got me started in this hobby with a pair of Klipsch KG 3.2's and a JVC receiver.

Then I moved on to separates and other speakers and it has been a merry go round every since!

I still use my turntable that I got when I was a junior in high school back in '82-'83.

But I was into it back in the mid '70 listening to vinyl on my fathers gear.

I'm 52 and got started because of my Dad. In the 60's he was a serious electronics buff. Building and trying out lots of projects from Popular Electronics. One of his proudest accomplishments was to build 2 Heatkit amplifiers, a Heathkit Preamp, a "sweet 16" speaker array and a midrange. This was coupled with a Gerard turntable and the year was 1964.

I still remember sitting in the living room spinning records with the family and just listening. The sound system was a huge hit with all their Friends and they used to entertain regularly.

My first system of any consequence was in 1976 and featured, a Gerard turntable (of course). It was a conglomeration of electronic store finds but I remember being pretty ecstatic with the sound. (Especially compared to the 8-track that was in the car.) Got the HT bug when Laser discs came out in the early 90's and that was the first time I purchased any Polk Speakers.

I've always had some kind of sound system, but have been the most serious about it the last 6 years or so. It always seems there are other projects pulling funds from the audio budget. It's been a fun journey so far.

48 and was bigtime into it growing up, all my friends went out and bought cars when they were hititng 15 and 16, I was the stereo guy with all the records and the 4 giant Cerwin Vegas blasting the parties. Kept at it into my late 20's.
Have have a passion for and loved music since I was a kid. Never really got back into the higher end gear stuff again, but still love the music. I like tinkering with what I have now and am happy doing that.

You know, when you stop and look back at this statement, you realize we are definitely part of a passion. How many folks out there have actually ever had or even thought that an audio budget would even exist for anybody? I can see a financial counselor reacting after you hit him up with the "audio budget"....

I'm 40 and even since High school I have always had one of the best systems of all my friends. Then about 5 years ago I joined here and it really opened my mind. I have way too much time on my hands so I have really gone off the deep end researching and trying things that I always thought of as voodoo. Spending a lot of time researching DIY stuff has really taught me a lot. The biggest thing I have learned is numbers lie. Also another big thing I learned is that it doesn't have to cost a fortune to get real good sound.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks
    Ben

39 here, and always loved looking at (since I would have been killed for touching) my grandfather's MacIntosh gear (damn that stuff is beautiful) and the stuff my dad brought home from Okinawa. My first foray into high end audio was a used pair of Klipsch Heresy's (cause my friends who were "audiophile experts" said to spend all my money on good speakers). Since the rest of my gear was crap I hated the horns and basically gave up on good sound until about 3 years ago. Now I'm blown away by all the good info and advice available and wish I had gotten serious about it way earlier!
