Having a real problem with flea market buyer guys

Well I sold my pioneer elite vsx01 to a member codyc1ark

On the second night he had it he sent me a pm and said that one of the hdmi ports was not working . I was under the impression it was working fine so I offered to pay half the money for a 2 in 1 out hdmi splitter.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt because hdmi pins are really fragile inside. He ignores my offer and does not respond

Now 4 days later after ignoring me he responds and he says that the receiver is all of a sudden going into protect mode and shutting down and that he demands a full refund

I guess I am reaching out to you guys for guidance and advice because I packaged it good and put the insurance on the product for $300

This receiver left my house the way it got here ...In working order so now do I have to screw myself and take back the avr ?

It blows my mind why would anyone buy an avr and then turn around just shy of a week and say they dont want it saying " it does not work as you advertised it" I get the feeling somthing is not right:confused:

IMO, if the buyer isn't happy and the gear is not working up to spec, unless there was an issue described in the sale thread, then yes, I'd take it back.

Yes but there was not everything worked fine when I sent it out now its shutting down

So you personally do not know if those ports were working 100%?

If it's broken I'd take it back...

I may or may not take it back

In my opinion he has had it a week and he broke it .It was working when he got it now he broke it and I get shafted?

Its easy for all you to say be a man and refund him but If he had reported this to me straight away that it shuts down and he does not want it then I would not hesitate to refund

This does not seem right ?

Why was he posting here on the forum after he got it and not reporting any issues ?

Here's a quote from him ..... Agreed Glowrdr. I switched from my Onkyo to a Pioneer Elite, I've only had the Pio for about 24 hours, but just from first impressions, I think the Onkyo may be a little more user friendly, but just a first impression. I wish you luck with whatever decision you make, refurbs should always be in good working order, as someone should have been through the unit

I think he just has buyers remorse and is trying to bend me over because how can I file a claim for ups when it worked when he had it?

I can provide the sellers name and add on ebay

I used pay pal linked to my credit card so I had full protection

If anything was not working then ebay would refund me in a heartbeat

Take it back. That is what CP Flea Market is all about. You stand up and do the right thing. I've taken a loss I didn't think was my fault...but I stood behind what I sold...period. If you don't want to go by that "code"....then you need to sell your stuff on e-bay where the name of the game is buyer beware...not here.

I saw the date. I also saw that the buyer only had it 2 days before he told you of the first problem and only 4 days before it shut down.

You can forget about filing a shipping damage claim as there is no visible damage to the unit it will be denied outright.

I'd refund as well. We have to keep the integrity of the flea market at a high level as it benefits ALL of us. Sometimes we might have to take a hit for the Club as a whole in order to keep our standards high.

Also, if you get this unit back and it's working? Then you'll know for sure...won't you!

Also I, agree with Larry..keep all these transactions private as long as possible and try to settle them. Don't post names at this point.

    1. Electronics can be damaged during shipping and not show right away (IE: cold solder joint, cracked board etc.)

    2. Often we buy gear (or something else) and are too busy to check it out right away, a week down the road to report a problem is not ground to to say "This does not seem right".

    3. The buyer trusted you (gave you the benefit of the doubt) when you specify it was in working order, why shouldn't you do the same for him (give him the benifit of the doubt that is)? You may seem you are at lost now but fact is that doing the right thing will pay off in the long run.

Just swallow it, take the hit now it will be your gain sooner than later (you pointed out you sold other gear on this site in the past. If you move gear often, you will be glad to have Polkies trusting you do the right thing with them in the future).

Use Polk as an example, many claims having Polk do the right thing for them even when not sure if the liability belonged to Polk. Polk preferred keeping a clean name. Do the same for your self, not for Polk not for the Flea Market but for your self. Your integrity and goodwill will surely be rewarded here if you do the right thing. Get the respect you deserve :)

Internal damage resulting from shipping can be sometime proven with the help of a good repair technician.

Its not going to happen, especially against a large parcel carrier. Any costs associated with proving such a thing would render any recovery from the claim a wash or worse.

I agree with the majority that you should refund the money. This is the place that I feel the safest in buying online. I bought my first two amps here and it was a pleasure dealing with both parties. I always know in the back of my mind, that if something happens here, the person will take care of it. As others have said, this place is a group who takes care of their own. Personally, I have had an amp for over a week before I could hook it up. I let the seller know that also. A week is just not long enough to be saying something is fishy.

This is nothing to do with you as a mod

I am having a discussion with members here but while I sort this out why dont you go ahead and bar me anyways because I have no intentions of using the flea market

this is the reason i am hesitant to buy or sell electronics. there is a very good chance that it worked fine when sold, and was damaged during shipping. the problem is trying to get the insurance to pay for it.
i hope it works out for both parties.
