No, its supposed to perhaps allow me to potentially have more leeway with their dispersal later on...unfortunately it doesnt matter since I will be moving rooms after surgery.

But I go from having a roommate to no roommate so that a good....that and I was on the 3rd floor last time anyway so maybe some of the same nurses will be there...

and I have already schmoozed them...

Last post before surgery. Lyrics from a Newsboys song have been running through my head, thought I would share them:
In the hands of God we will fall
Rest for the restless, and the weary
    Hope for the sinner
In the hands of God we stand tall
Hands that are mighty to deliver
    Giving us freedom

Happy one day before Thanksgiving, everyone!

I am back and better than ever. Officially I lost one foot of small bowel.

First and foremost, let's just say that our surgeon was phenomenal. He came HIGHLY recommended by a family friend and surgeon, so we were confident that I was in the best hands possible. They wheeled me in at 2:30 and I was out within an hour. The surgeon came out with fabulous news. The diseased area of bowel basically jumped into his hands as soon as they made the incision. He said that all together there were about four or five strictures (which they weren't able to see on the CT). So, they removed about a foot of my bowel and put me back together to go into recovery. The doctor said that everything else looked pristine... what all does that mean?

    I AM CURRENTLY DISEASE FREE!

The doctor did tell us, however, that about 50% of Crohn's patients that undergo surgery will eventually need more within seven years. We are praying and faithful that I will be in that 50% that will never need it again. I will be put on some medications to help keep me in remission and continuing on the Humira. Although spending Thanksgiving in the hospital was not my ideal way of celebrating this holiday... it is the best Thanksgiving I have ever had.

I always have a lot to be thankful for and can list my blessings at the dinner table before carving into that turkey, but to hear those words - "disease free" and "remission" were everything my wife and I have been praying for every night for for the last three years. Most of all, hearing that doctor tell me that I will be able to eat whatever I want makes me crack a big grin.

So, I am not totally completely coherent, but doing well (so my posts today might not make total sense).

As a side note thought you guys might enjoy this status update my wife posted on Facebook.....
He literally just woke up for a brief moment and asked me to email him a copy of some random person's Verizon bill so that he could remove the hold off of their account. Then he proceeded to tell me that he ships out parts for Polk and that he feels bad that he's leaving the guys hanging. Haha! If only he knew what he was saying.

Trust me so far its been 2 servings of apple juice and 2 jello's. I am in no mood to rush eating solids at all. Last thing I want to do is rip open my stitches.

Package arrived at the rental office today and they are dropping it by the apartment later today. The wife is going to pick it up on her way to see me and I will the requested picture. Decided that the picture wasn't worth shaving for because I feel like being lazy. It also is the only time I will ever get to try out a beard as the wife doesn't like them and I don't normally have enough days off in a row to grow one....

So I will post another picture after I get out (getting discharged tomorrow) with what I normally look like all clean shaven and whatnot.....

Yup, getting out tomorrow sometime. Kept all my food down with no issues. Some slight discomfort that will fade in the coming weeks. Really looking forward to going home and seeing my dogs. I REALLY REALLY MISS THEM :frown:.

Really noticed how much muscle mass I have lost in my legs from the bedrest. I am down from 155 to 140 since the 8th of this month. Going to try and beef back up.

Mostly looking forward to not being attached to an IV and being able to move around some. Will have very limited driving abilities if any at all, but am going to enjoy sitting on the porch and doing some reading with the dogs.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. I plan on trying to keep things updated as I go.

And with all my free time I will be able to continue to contribute to the forums and hopefully get a Midwest/Indiana Forum Members meet planned or at least get the planning started.

    Looking forward to it all.

Much thanks to the Folks at Polk for the care package. The generosity surprised myself, my wife and my family. Glad to be able to consider myself a part of such a community!

Great news that you're doing well. A friend of mine has Crohn's and has been in and out of hospitals for years but he keeps acting like an idiot and eating all the stuff he's not supposed to. Now he has the bag. If you take care of yourself although not curable Crohn's is managable and you can have a happy productive life. I'm glad you caught it early before too much damage was done. You seem to have a great attitude and a loving supportive (and really cute) wife. You're doing great and that's fantastic news.

Yeah, I manage my food quite well which is why this was annoying to us. I would eat all the things that shouldnt cause problems and feel great, but then end up in the hospital. Now that they took everything out I should be able to eat some more foods, but I plan to be very cautious about what I eat. Spicy food is still probably going to be off the list, but hoping some more red meats will be available for me to eat.

Hoping to never need the bag as that is just a world of not fun. The goal is to be able to keep it managed from here on out and continue with my normal boring productive life.

Congratulations on your succcesful surgery, keep pluggin' and chuggin'.

....speaking of plugs..... you do know that those electrical outlets in your room are hospital grade which is the same thing as audio grade ? They would make nice souvenirs, IMO.

    Again, congratulations !
