I wasn't sure if you had been on anything like Humira or if you were just starting. I think I have to agree that Surgery may be your best bet. Note recovery is long. On the average 8-12 weeks. They will tell you 6-8 but I have not seen anyone have that rate of recovery unless the surgery was done laproscopically.

I would see if they can do the surgery laproscopically. It cuts the heal time almost in half and the chances of hernias in area of the surgery are minimal. I wish this was an option when I had my surgery back in 2000. I look like I was gutted by a fishermen.

If you ever need to shoot the crap hit me up via pm.

Hang tough and enjoy the pain meds...

I have been on Humira since September and we recently had my dosage increased from bi-weekly to weekly. They are not sure they can do it laproscopicaly due to the inflammation. The medical resident said they normally dont/cant with crohns patients. That is definitely my preference, but we still have to talk to the surgeon to see what our options are.....

Appreciate the offer. If I ever need to shoot the crap I will definitely take you up on it....

Best of luck to you. I've had two feet of my large intestine removed and everything worked out fine. Good luck and get well soon.
Works fine now, everything goes straight through, right?
Talked to one of the doctors and she was going to talk to her GI group and come in and present me with my "options". Wish they would all just come in at once rather than have one come in, ask questions and go report to the rest and then have them come in. But the process is the process.....
Yeah, know the feeling... looks like the word is passed around to keep you busy all day with a panoply of doctors I/Ps!

How about getting out of the hospital first. Prayers for you sir.

I have Crohn's and have been on Humira for 2 years now. The stuff is amazing and kept me from having surgery to the point that I don't need it at all right now or for the foreseeable future.

If you have never been on Remicade I would talk about that first. It seems to heal things better than Humira or Cimzia.

Let me know if you have any questions as I have been through the mill with Crohn's.

Good luck and Get Well Soon..

You are getting sound advives from Joe since he went through the drill him self so if I were you I would tend to listen to him. Stop worrying about finances for now, think of your health and don't cut corners. The longer you can wait before getting your insides chopped off the better. If medication allows you to avoid the "chop... chop..." you better go for it! I would highly recommend you take Joe's invite on PM talk.

Surgery should be the last resort. They chopped me about 8" lenghtwise and I was off work for a total of 5 months (1 month in hospital + 4 months recovery). I was willing to go back to work after 4 months (money concerns of course) but the extra month was welcomed when I look back and I don't think my case was as serious as yours (since no cancer (the main reason for opening was to take a smal sample of a white mass to make sure there was no cancer) was found and no pieces were removed). Keep in mind I am an old **** and maybe healing would be easier for a younger lad like you but it would still put you down for a few months.

I believe you are right, I had back surgery in the past (chopping 2 buldging discs and grinding/cutting artritis from vertebras) and the next day early morning I was claiming out of the hospital and so I did! There is no way I could have even tought of going out after the gut surgery, much more healing is needed and while back pain is serious, it is kind of minor compared to gut pain!

EndersShadow, my thougths and prayers are still with you but just don't forget that you need to help your self in order to get God's help  By all mean, keep the positive attitude, that beats a lot of meds and interventions (when used to complement them)

    Cheers!

While I agree surgery is a last resort this section of bowel has been the root cause of all my problems for the last 6 months. All scans have shown that no matter the amount of steroids or other drugs the stricture will simply not heal at all. So......

Surgery is gonna happen on Wends sometime. The surgeon basically said the bowel isnt functioning right and just cant be saved. Its under 10-12 inches total that could be removed and recovery is looking like 4-6 weeks (but could always be longer or shorter).

The wife and I are looking at this through the viewpoint that if it helps me manage my Crohns rather than be managed by it its a step in the right direction. This area is the only active area with Crohns so removal should help with everything else.

So I will have more than enough time to browse the forums, play Halo and basically annoy the hell out of my wife until I get better. It also means I wont be able to head up to Nooshins until he finishes his tube amps . Just hope I am going to be able to be off of work for that long paid. Have to talk to my boss about all this tomorrow and see what the deal is going to be. Will be able to have it FMLA protected regardless...

So it looks like turkey day for me is going to consist of jello and broth if anything at all. But if it allows me to enjoy turkey days in the future without fear of getting sick, or eating the wrong thing, I consider it a win.

Hey Mark send him a size small too for his 36-24-36 good looking nurse, that ought to bring him back to life quick! However, put a condition that he has to take a pic and post it on the the Polk babe thread. EndersShadow, if your lucky maybe Keiko will volunteer to send you one of his "Asian Pie Nurse" (instant recovery garanteed):cool::tongue:

lol....T-shirt picture will be uploaded...and I have already gotten some Asian nurse pics in my last thread from him....but would prefer to pass on this case since the wife wouldnt appreciate it...

With having a nice incision spot in the middle of my belly a smaller size might not work out so well for me lol.....but the mental image does make me laugh a bit.
