Got home from work this afternoon to see a posting in the denver area for a pair of SDA 2s for $50!

Gave the guy a call and he already had someone on the way for them... for 50 bucks it was such a steal that I offered him $100 and told him I'd be there in half an hour... he called the other guy and said he got a better offer and I went and picked them up.

Overall in pretty good shape, all original and the drivers and radiators are in great shape! One is missing a tweeter which I would have replaced anyways and no interconnect cable.

Looks like to get them looking great all I will need to do is some sanding, put a coat of stain on them and redo the grill covers (though not terrible I'd still like to get them snag free).

So happy right now for what I think was a great deal!

You set yourself up when you posted, ". . . Gave the guy a call and he already had someone on the way for them . . . "

Then you additionally wrote your thought process, ". . . for 50 bucks it was such a steal that I offered him $100 and told him I'd be there in half an hour . . ."

You apologized in one of the posts above and it seems like you will move on and use this as a learning experience, but the " Karma" part is already in motion as some good resources have decided they won't help you.

I'm guessing if you had it to do over again you might approach it in a different way.

I think from what Larry said backed up by what you said that the OP is a nice guy that made a mistake and we all make mistakes the thing is hopefully we learn from them.

I know lots of people feel that way about CL and IMHO its a a shame because CL was never designed to be an auction based enviroment and in fact is against their rules to set up a auction type ad such as best offer without a set price. I personally would never attempt to offer more for some item when someone else had allready been told to come get it for the set price simply because I feel that it is a cutthroat way to do businesss in a non auction enviroment and nothing for sale is worth that to me.

I know at times I may appear to be a hard **** about things of an ethical nature but I am an old **** and am pretty set in my ways, and I feel there is little in life that cant be taken away by circumstances beyond our control health wealth even our freedom but my integrity and keeping my word is something that nothing and no one can take away.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

I think we can all agree that these speakers are in a better place. Didn't the OP say there was a thrift store sticker on them? and from the pics and subsequent posts it sounds like they will be better taken care of. I'm just glad the OP didn't buy them to flip them.

Well now that it seems like everyone got their Good Vs. Evil battle out of them... I hooked them up tonight including the tweeter Larry so generously donated to my cause and am pleasantly surprised by how well they sound. I have them running off the adcom gfa-7500 and Marantz 7002 just how I run my LSI's and they sound decent. Very bright for most things besides ghetto rap (go figure) but since I am missing the interconnect cable I attribute some of the harshness to that. At this point I would put them up against anyone with a pair of 1.2s ;)

With sda's you need a common ground amp.

No, because you don't have the innerconnect connected. It might be common ground no sure just wanted to let you know. I know the Adcom 5xxx series aren't common ground.

So overall, without the cable it really doesn't matter if it's common ground or not? So I'm good either way for now? But later on if I wanted the cable for the true sda effect I would need a common ground amp?

Correct. The SDA circuit ties left and right grounds together. Without the Interconnect cable it does not matter, but a non-common ground amp with the Interconnect connected can cause fireworks.

 Well wait a minute, the whole reason for owning SDA's is based upon what that Interconnect adds to the game.

Grab your VOM and set it to continuity (ohms). With the amp powered off, check the reading between the left channel black and right channel blank. There should be continuity indicating the two channels are connected (grounded) together internally. There should be zero to just a tiny amount of resistance.

Not worth keeping without the cable. Are they pin/blade?

Yes, they are pin/blade. And I guess I got a bit confused there thinking that without a common ground amp the cable was useless because you would get the same effect... I guess this is what the hobby is all about for me... learn, listen, fix, swap, change, and outbid ;)

You can stick bare wire in the pin terminals in place of the cable. It'll get you by until you find a cable.
