Got home from work this afternoon to see a posting in the denver area for a pair of SDA 2s for $50!

Gave the guy a call and he already had someone on the way for them... for 50 bucks it was such a steal that I offered him $100 and told him I'd be there in half an hour... he called the other guy and said he got a better offer and I went and picked them up.

Overall in pretty good shape, all original and the drivers and radiators are in great shape! One is missing a tweeter which I would have replaced anyways and no interconnect cable.

Looks like to get them looking great all I will need to do is some sanding, put a coat of stain on them and redo the grill covers (though not terrible I'd still like to get them snag free).

So happy right now for what I think was a great deal!

    That's poor form.

You know... I was concerned about that too until the guy told me he was selling them because he lost his job and couldn't afford to undertake the fixer-upper project. I felt giving him somewhat close to what they were worth was better for him than getting a measly 50 bucks. Plus, now I have some SDAs for a great price...

Sorry, we don't all have a armored car full of cash in our driveway Mole! We all can't buy everything that's shiny out of the for sale area or take road trips to pick up speakers bigger than my car ;)

On the sellers part. If he had a deal he should've kept his promise, but it happens all the time.

Honestly I don't understand you guys that take the attitude that it's WRONG to get as much as possible for something you're trying to sell on CL, especially given the sellers financial situation...

And given the circumstances, the guy buying at $50 new he was STEALING them at that price. If he really wanted them, should have stepped up and offered more.

EDIT: And congrats, welcome to the SDA club. Pics or it didn't happen.

Larry can vouch, before I even knew I was getting them I pm'ed him to see if it was him planning to pick them up. If it was I would have stepped down and let him take up the good deal.

Sorry mole, we can't all be well educated in cars, spending money, and posting pictures online ;) Maybe once I average 30 ppd I can figure out this intermanet visual postage and handling thing.

I will certainly redo the wood, it's not too bad as far as it being beat up but with the stains on them and whatnot I'll sand them down quite a bit and touch up the edges. Then I will most likely stain them to a wood color other than the blonde and obviously redo the grill cloth. Oh, and maybe put in a tweeter ;)

Man, I wish Polk had mentioned in their manuals that the tops ARE NOT COASTERS!!
"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."
    Benjamin Franklin, February 17th, 1775.

"The day that I have to give up my constitutional rights AND let some dude rub my junk...well, let's just say that it's gonna be a real bad day for the dude trying to rub my junk!!"

^ Sorta sad but, someone also dropped them off at goodwill judging by the 12.99 sticker on the bottom of the one missing the tweeter. If you aren't smart enough to not put your drink on it you also aren't smart enough to sell them instead of donate.

Nick don't touch the tops till we talk. It is veneer covered not a solid wood like oak or the like. You can sand it but if you take it down to much your screwed. And you will be replacing the wood. Not that it's a bad thing cause you get a better finish but you can save those and make them look better then they are..

Congrats on the score. Don't feel bad at the coaster move. The previous owner of my RT5000p system used the speakers as candle holders!!! and you can't close our eyes on a HT system to enjoy the sound, or ya miss the picture on the TV:) I like the wood cap 2B speaker look. haven't convinced myself to let mine go, but I need to fund my 194 upgrade on my 2.3s. have fun fixin em up!

^ Tomorrow once larry comes by I will get a look at the guts. Through the hole where the tweeter was all I can see is a bunch of cotton. It will be interesting opening them up to see what's really going on in there... I'm already formulating some interesting grill cloth color ideas to make these something unique that I can keep around for quite some time.
