Re: PS Audio AC3’s, Power Ports and a Pair of Douglas Connection Cables
A couple power ports.
Those are a good buy. I love the three I have and wouldn’t mind a few more spares at some point lol

Re: What did you do to your stereo rig today?
Yesterday, replaced the two Input Attenuator's on the Clair Bros Phase Linear 700's.
Today, going in to the Balance Pot Control to get some static out. Some Deox & Lube.
If that doesn't cure the static noise and dropping out it's time for a replacement.

Re: $6 Nakamichi tape deck
I owned a Dragon for quite a few years. An engineering marvel that sounds incredible considering it's cassette tape. Always used high end blanks.
Once I stopped listening to cassette's it just sat there. Very nice piece of gear visually, but it made sense to move it along.
Unfortunately pre-recorded cassette's leave/left A LOT to be desired. Initially I would buy a new LP (this is before cd) and the 1st play I'd record using the Dragon. Put the LP away and listen to the tape. Later when CD came out I'd borrow friends cd's and make copies. Cd's were expensive at first. I'd also make mix tapes.
Glad I got to own and experience what is probably the best consumer deck made.

Re: Polk L800 and First Watt SIT-5
There is also Class A push-pull, you know? It also offers freedom from crossover distortion. Class A PP can sound very, very good.
Single-ended amplification:
1) Operates in Class A by definition
and
2) For better or worse, does not cancel out even-order harmonic distortion, whereas push-pull does.
SE vs. PP is an age-old debate, but low-order, even-order harmonic distortion sounds good, whereas low order, odd-order harmonic distortion sounds bad. ... and higher-order, odd-order harmonic distortion sounds even worse.
The so-called second harmonic distortion product of a "fundamental" pure tone (note) is exactly twice the frequency of the fundamental; i.e., exactly one octave higher in pitch (frequency). This sounds pleasant by definition. Consider a four note "chord", where the fourth note is an octave above the fundamental. The C-major triad is C, E (the major third), and G (perfect fifth)... then add C an octave above for the four part harmony. Try it on a keyboard.
I.e., the issue of SE vs. PP ain't quite a trivial one, operating class notwithstanding.
I'd probably recommending getting some high-quality ears-on listening time before plunking down $11k.

Re: Post a picture.....any picture...part deux...
If you remember the boot tamping and see this, it's funny once again. Never in a hundred years...

Although it was for sale 9 weeks ago. Maybe they still have it. Nope, they sold the tamper and the weazel.
It's just about 30 miles away...Maybe I wouldn't have spent $ on the gas, 10.00 to go get them.
Oh well. I might have to look up the price of a new tamper now.
DANG! 40.00.
I see why my frugal butt never bought one.

Polk L800 and First Watt SIT-5
I recently discovered the First Watt SIT-5, a true single-ended Class A amplifier rated at 65 watts into 4 ohms. While it may not be a powerhouse, I am interested in how it performs with Polk Audio L800 SDA speakers at typical listening levels. Has anyone used this amplifier with the L800s? Based on its specifications, it appears well-suited for the SDA. I currently use a Parasound JC5 A/B amplifier with these speakers and am considering whether the Class A single-ended design would provide a noticeably better listening experience.

Re: 20 Legendary Vintage Speakers That Put Modern Gear to Shame, According to Audiophiles
It’s always a pleasure to read anything by Art Dudley. It is definitely a different take on what should be included under the “vintage” umbrella.
He is much missed.
Plus, his interests and mine intersect pretty well.
That Altec sound is a thing. I find it utterly beguiling -- although I will say that the right-ness of the RCA LC-1A coax is a wonderful thing to hear. I will never be able to afford (i.e., justify the purchase price) of a pair, though.
RCA LC1A by je245, on FlickrPhoto taken by my friend, colleague, and designer of my 2A3 amp, Joseph Esmilla, of a pair of slightly scroungy-looking, but sonically unassailable LC-1As ensconced in a pair of gorgeous bespoke cabinets built from Harry Olson's own recommended enclosure plan for his redoubtable coaxes.
This is a pair of LC-1As with which Joseph & I are both quite familiar.

Re: Animal Trackers in my Soup
My guess would be bobcat as well. And maybe one or two other animals. I think the tracks aren't so defined because of the powdery characteristics of the snow. In other words, after the imprint is made, a little dusting of powder causes the track to be "blurry."
I lived on a mountain a while back and there were bobcats around. Sometimes they left the "classic" cat print and other times they left something very similar to what you've got there.
I just tried to e-mail one of the friendlier ones (robertfeline@hotmail.com) and soon after I got a notification that said it couldn't be delivered.

Re: $6 Nakamichi tape deck

Just recently got my Nakamichi Dragon repaired and back in the main system. Also have two Nakamichi CR-2A decks elsewhere in the house. Currently bopping to Kenny Burrell's Have Yourself a Soulful Little Christmas {Chess CHC-91567}
