I could dial a number and get the time and temperature.
In our home town it was the bank number. Their marquee always showed the time and temp.

Speaking of 6V6 (oids), as has our good friend and trusted colleague, @tonyp063...
the 6AQ5 (essentially a 6V6 in a 7-pin miniature package) is a very fine little tube for a single ended or push-pull amplifier -- and (AFAIK) still of virtually zero interest to virtually anybody.
Perhaps the best sounding $30 amplifier I've ever stumbled across.
PP 6AQ5 = ca. 10 watts per channel
