Re: Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore
Mrbigbluelight. Concur with your sentiments.
My comments on the pilots being onboard were to highlight that IF something could have been done to avoid the tragedy, it would have been, navigationally at least. Trying my best to get ahead of the inevitable person questioning the competency of the mariners involved as I have seen all over other platforms.
In general, I’m more interested in the WHY the ship lost power and the actions taken within upon the loss. From the AIS track, it is very apparent just when the first power loss happened and it was not an appreciable amount of time before the ship hit the support. So yes the anchor drop takes an amount of time from the decision to “let go of the anchor” and the human releasing the break, and that amount of time wasn’t enough to do jack or **** to prevent what happened. That doesn’t stop me from generally being interested in the decisions made by the Master and Pilots embarked. Given what I can observe, there wasn’t a whole heck of a lot that could have been done differently. Power was regained momentarily after the first loss, but there was not an appreciable course change via AIS which leads me to believe positive control of the ship was never regained prior to the allision. ALL speculation at this point.
As an aside with no bearing on the incident, I’ve been under that bridge multiple times on a YP with 30 midshipman trying to end my naval career early, and have driven over it multiple times when I taught at USNA. Very sad to see it laying in the water and
Mebigbluelight, so NUC SWO? did you have your surface command (s) west coast/east coast or elsewhere? My father is a retired NUC LDO who at one point was a CHENG on a CVN. I am just your average SWO

No protection which is just negligent considering the ramifications. I wonder how many other similarly easy, bang-for-the-buck targets are out there. Will be interesting to find out how that ship managed to hit it.
The Chesapeake Bay bridges have no dolphins, only a bit of a bumper around the base of the main piers that would not stop an out of control cargo ship from taking the bridge down. It's criminal. Every cargo ship or cruise liner must pass under the bridges coming to or going from the Port of Baltimore.

This just in:
https://hifipig.com/sound-united-to-be-acquired-by-medical-tech-company-masimo/
oh, here's a slightly less funky source (at least in terms of the URL) for the same info:
https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20220215006178/en/Sound-United-Enters-into-Agreement-to-Be-Acquired-by-Masimo-Corporation
"Pursuant to the merger agreement, Masimo will pay approximately $1.025 billion, subject to adjustments, for the acquisition."
Bizarre purchase, imo.
"The Sound United transaction aligns with Masimo’s priorities, objectives and vision by advancing our strategy of enabling connected monitoring across both the hospital and home. We see significant opportunities to cross-leverage technologies, bringing Masimo’s clinically superior solutions into the home and on-the-go as well as bringing Sound United’s premium technologies into the hospital to advance our hospital automation connectivity and cloud-based technologies.
The technology and expertise within Sound United will serve us well as we aim to augment our Masimo SafetyNet strategy. Their well-established reputation and presence in the home can help us accelerate adoption of our wearables, and integrated, home-based telemedicine solutions.”
Uh okay, if you say so.

Re: Sound United buys B&W
Curious buy. Market not liking masi today. They beat, beat, and held; say SU will be immediately accretive; no leadership changes. Trading halted at -31%. Halt lifted and drops more. Growth not remarkable, but they still seem to have serious Pulse Ox market share - at least around here - and decent margins.
The SU purchase maybe feels a tad forced, but doesn't seem desperate?
Down 40% now.

Re: The final piece is on it way.
How are you incorporating the Ground Master City...connecting the green wire directly to your PSM156? I'd love to try the bigger Ground Master, but installing an 8ft copper grounding rod into what is technically a common area might violate my townhome's HOA covenant, and when I move, I don't want to try and pull that bad boy back out.I got the 156 then added the groundmaster city, totally silent background and improved Soundstage.
I read that as well. For example, supplanting Audioquest and Shunyata products."marvda1 wrote:I read in many places where the 156 outperformed or matched much more expensive units.

Re: The final piece is on it way.
My bad. I joined the "squad" for about a decade to defend the homeowners from the yellow pad folks.
It worked while I was there but after that? The HOA went bankrupt. Luckily, I sold the townhouse by then.
Since then? HOA rates have gone up by more than double. Crazy, given what they offer...

Re: The final piece is on it way.
I hooked the city to the psm156 and a regular 15a outlet as I was told it doesn't make a difference between hooking the city to a dedicated line or regular.
