Re: Bad Christmas for Me
The antibiotics were prescribed from my initial visit to my PCM, when they thought it was a bog standard ear infection. ENTs/ER prescribed the high dose prednisone as is standard with SSHL and “Sudden Hearing Loss”.
To this point, no improvement. Just terrible Tinnitus. Also lots of other weird stuff with my eyes being able to focus and stabilize and headaches. It’s going to be a long road but as long as my body learns to cope with the other stuff, I’ll learn to survive with the hearing. Good news is I don’t need to spend big money on stereo stuff anymore lol.
I’ll keep my DIY speakers and NAD M10V2 and pick up a cheaper record player/phone so I can still at least enjoy the music

Re: Sony UDP-X800M2 Issues
All the major players do not make players anymore that where great.
Pioneer Elite, Denon , Oppo are 3 that were excellent from DVD to UHD. It's a damn shame physical media is basically gone. For the entire 2024 year I think I sold maybe 4 players and I do Home Theater rooms and many media and family Room Surround systems.
No one wants them except a very small few and people are streaming their content.
As far as getting a new player? I have Sony's top end player the 1000ES from a few years ago, it works when it wants to. I didn't bother to get the 1100ES because I didn't use my 1000 much.
The X800m2 , well there isn't much choice. Oppo is gone, there is another brand like OPPO which I have no support over and they are expensive. It might be in your best interest to call Sony and see what they could do for you to repair it. If that is too much hassle , as they are not expensive, just buy another one. What other choice to you have? Hardly no one is making a nice player.
You can go Panasonic , they have a few players that are nice but they are limited in ability, no SACD and no DVD audio if that even matters.

Sony UDP-X800M2 Issues
So..., last night I was watching a BD and had to pause it for a few minutes. All of the sudden I hear this sound through the speakers (like a constant brown noise but deeper). As I looked at the TV screen it said "SONY" in white letters and wouldn't respond. The drawer worked but that was it. Remote has no effect. Unplugging for over 10 minutes, then overnight, has had no effect. I pushed the power button for 10 seconds, like the manual states, to no effect. It just sits there with the Sony logo and the green light for the power button. It won't do anything but the stupid drawer for the disc works.
Has anyone else had this sort of issue and resolved it? I've searched the internet and while many have had this issue I couldn't find any solution. One person even stated that Sony support pretty much said F-off, but was nice about it. If I could check the firmware/updates and settings I would but all I can get is Sony on the screen.
If it's toast that would suck as it's only three years old. My old Yamaha Aventage BD-A1010 was retired only because it wouldn't play DVD's anymore. It would, however, play BD's. Funny, the Yammi was 10 years old when I took it out. Looks like I'll put it back in to see if it still works, for now.
As a side note/question - what players are good anymore or all they all junk after a short time? Please no comments on the media format. I could care less about streaming every single thing and having to pay for it when I have so much on disc.
Thank You in advance.
