I try to match the Dolby Cinema experience 🤣pearsall001 wrote: »Curious, for real. How does that drop ceiling handle all those subwoofers? Mine vibrates like crazy with just one SVS. I'd love to know if there is a trick to control that.
Of course, my area is a fair bit smaller for the theater.
How hot are you running the sub? Maybe your SPL is way too high. I never had any issue with any sub/subs vibrating the drop ceiling.
No, not really, I have the sub level matched with a test tone/pink noise. Some movies just shake the walls and ceilings, like Blade Runner 2049. I noticed some of the bottles in my bar were moving closer to the edge of the shelf after that movie!
I think it was worse at my old house, but in hindsight, more of that noise came from the old florescent light fixtures. I took those all out of my current house and just have the shallow 1-piece LED cans which are silent as can be. After that swap, I think I pinpointed the air vent as a source of rattle, so I put some old dynamat on the back side of that. Vibrations are minimal now, but I'm not sure if that would be true with all those RELs in my room.

Re: AQ Chocolate HDMI Cables Good for 4k?
Audioqest made a few new HDMI cables in the Chocolate range over the years. I assume you have the original Chocolate cables? If they don't say 4k or 4k/8k on the head , they maybe 10-18g cables.
I suggest before you buy any new ones , test them on your system and see if they limit your max resolution. If they do then you need to get new cables, if not your good to go.

Mrs. H knows from experience that if she enters a large number for certain species (e.g., Northern Cardinal) they ask for some evidence.
That's where I come in!
twenty of them rascals this morning.
Mind you, there were zero cardinals reported in this area until 1969. Now, as shown above, they're pretty common.
But none are getting anything from that feeder until the Blue Jay is done!

Re: Need Subwoofer Plate amp. For Energy S12.3
My Monitor Audio FB210 sub had the same fate a couple of months ago. The 500 watt plate amp died. I took it to the local MA dealer, Custom Audio, thinking that would be the end of it. They told me that the amp was toast, as I expected. The sub was over 15 years old and a replacement amp from MA was no longer available. They suggested a 500 watt plate amp from Parts Express.
The amp was $359 from PE. Both drivers needed to be removed and the opening was enlarged slightly to install the new amp. The total with amp, labor, and tax came to just under $530. I originally paid $500 for the sub when I bought it. It was 2 years old then and was $1000 when new. It sounds as good as it did before and looks great. There is a 5 year warranty on the amp from PE. A new MA or Paradigm sub would have been in the $1200-1500 price range from Custom Audio. This entire process took less than 3 weeks.

Re: Thoughts on a possible REL upgrade.
The high level inputs allow the main L/R speakers (or any others) to take advantage of the filter in the connected subwoofers with the speakers set to large rather than small in the receiver/preamp. The LFE inputs in the subwoofers are only active with LFE content (the .1 in 5.1 or 7.1) for movie or multichannel audio soundtracks.
Ditto!
It was very interesting setting up the one 7x for the center speaker. For this application the high level is used, no LFE. I set the level in the AVR using pink noise to 75db so it was level matched with the other speakers. Now I had to adjust the high level by ear. The XO & gain adjustments were instantly audible in the sound. It went from thin sounding to too beefy. Even the slightest adjustment made a difference. After about 20 minutes of tinkering everything fell into place beautifully. The center now sounds like a full range speaker & makes a remarkable difference in the front sound stage compared to its previous setting of small & XO set to 80hz.
I'm curious if other manuf. allow for both high level & .1 LFE to be run simultaneously. My previous VELO SPL 1200R subs has both connections but the manual was very specific in stating DO NOT use both together, it was one or the other.
