Re: R-700 are Amazing for me!
On run in, my own experience is a minimum of 40 hours for things to balance out. Some say a hundred hundred or so hours with the larger (than usual for Polk) drivers used in the R700, L600, or L800.

That's definitely one way to get the magic smoke...

I shudder at the thought. In my meager time with A/V, I've owned two receivers and two processors. My first AVR dispersed the magic blue smoke right before my eyes....you can never unsee that and hope you never see it again.....

Current setup
For that room, get the R700. I finally got to hear them in action in an HT rig...nice.

Re: You’re doing it wrong…
I have only gotten it twice in my life. One with an 8 watt tube amp and the the other one knocked out 2 amplifiers that had JUST gotten back from service. A lightning strike was the cause for the second one....the system was on when it hit, so the electronics that were frying while the speakers were going?.....well, it amplified the system frying through the speakers.
